Jim Acosta, the longtime White House correspondent who often clashed with President Donald J. Trump during his first term is the latest major player in CNN cuts.
Warner Bros. Discovery has hinted branching off CNN and other networks after showing dismal quarter end earnings. Comcast has also planned on spinning off CNBC, E! Entertainment, MSNBC and USA Network.
Oliver Darcy, former CNN Media Analyst reported that Acosta is bowing out.
Darcy, a former CNN reporter, on Monday night said the 18-year veteran of the network has indicated to associates that he plans to leave the network after being removed from his 10 a.m. weekday time slot by CNN CEO Mark Thompson.
Earlier this month, Darcy said Thompson asked Acosta to anchor a show during the graveyard shift – from 12am to 2am.
Demotion.
The anchor, I’m told, signaled to associates in private conversations over the weekend that he intends to depart the network after its chief executive, Mark Thompson, booted him from the morning programming lineup — a move that conspicuously coincided with Donald Trump’s return to power.
CNN brass, as we first reported earlier this month, decided to strip Acosta of his 10am show, which he has anchored to great ratings success over the last 11 months, at times even seeing higher viewership than programs in the channel’s prime time bloc. Acosta was instead offered the less-than-desirable option of anchoring a show from midnight until 2am ET. CNN pitched the gig to Acosta as anchoring during prime time on the West Coast and said he could move to Los Angeles to host the program. But the reality is the program would have aired at a time in which cable news viewership is at its lowest levels.
Regarding Thompson’s suggesting that Acosta move to midnight, one source familiar with the situation said CNN was offering a sacrifice of sorts to Acosta’s longtime nemesis, President Donald Trump.
“They want to get rid of Acosta to throw a bone to Trump,” a source told Darcy.
“Midnight is not a serious offer when his ratings are among the best on the network.”
CNN is making major readjustments to its schedule.
The Lead with Jake Tapper will be moving to 5-7 p.m. ET, up from its current 4-6 pm slot. Debuting at 4 pm will be The Arena, hosted by Kasie Hunt who currently anchors CNN This Morning. Audie Cornish will be taking over that 6 am slot while Rahel Solomon will lead a new show called 5 Things at 5 am.
Wolf Blitzer will also be moving to the 10 am slot with Pamela Brown.
Last week, CNN also laid off about six percent of its workforce.
Joe Walsh, a former Republican lawmaker and staunch critic of Trump slammed the decision saying that cable news is dying because of its willingness to bow to a habitual liar and convicted felon. He said that the decisions that CNN made will not bring in MAGA or even Republican viewers. They are totally locked on Fox, Newsmax and NewsNation.

No other suspect has ever been arrested, but people in the documentary "Camoflauge" say that the people of Savannah's black community know who did it but are afraid to come forward for fear they will also be killed. No one in the documentary says the murder had anything to do with drugs; instead, they say, it was about envy of Camoflauge's talent and impending success.

With the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas entering its second week,
Trump said Gaza was “literally a demolition site, almost everything is demolished and people are dying there so I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing at a different location where they can maybe live in peace for a change”.
Trump said a population transfer “could be temporarily or could be long term”. The prewar population of Gaza was 2.2 million.
Amman and Cairo have since the start of the war in October 2023 repeatedly rejected any transfer of Palestinians to their territories, saying it would amount to the “liquidation of the Palestinian cause” at the expense of Israel’s neighbors.
Sisi has said previously that taking in Gazans would threaten Egypt’s peace agreement with Israel because of the risk that some of them would resume fighting the apartheid state from within Egypt’s borders.
H.A. Hellyer, senior fellow at Center for American Progress in Washington, said such a transfer “could be deeply destabilizing particularly for Jordan [which already has a large Palestinian population] and potentially for Egypt to relocate Palestinians to the Sinai for example because it could mean conflict between Palestinian militants and Israel”.
The two countries have weak economies and need U.S. support but their leaders would not want to be seen to be complicit in what Arab public opinion would consider a second “Nakba” or catastrophe — the exodus to neighboring countries of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees in 1948 when the state of Israel was founded.
“It would outrage Arabs because the historical record is very clear; every time Palestinians have been forced to leave part of Palestine, they never went back,” said Hellyer. “Emptying Gaza of its inhabitants would not have any support from the Arabs, or even internationally, because it is the definition of ethnic cleansing.”
Such a move, he added, would undermine prospects of a normalisation of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia — long a focus of U.S. diplomatic efforts in the region. “It would make it even more unlikely the deal would take place in the immediate future,” said Hellyer.
Trump’s Gaza proposal nonetheless delighted leaders of Israel’s far-right.
Finance minister Bezalel Smotrich described Trump’s suggestion as a “wonderful idea”, adding that “only outside-the-box thinking over new solutions will bring . . . peace and security”.
Itamar Ben-Gvir, the former Israeli national security minister who resigned in protest last week over the Gaza ceasefire deal, “praised” Trump for floating the idea.
Trump also confirmed that the Pentagon had lifted a hold on the delivery 2,000-pound bombs to Israel imposed by the Biden administration. “We released them today and they’ll have them,” he said. “They paid for them and they have been waiting for them for a long time.”
The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was already under strain despite the successful release on Saturday of four female Israeli soldiers from captivity in Gaza and 200 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.
Israeli officials said over the weekend that Hamas had violated the U.S.-brokered accord after it failed to release the last civilian woman hostage still believed to be alive — Arbel Yehud — before the soldiers.
Mediators were working behind the scenes to find a solution for Yehud’s release, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that until the matter was “put in order” it would not allow hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians to return to northern Gaza, as called for in the deal.

We will stand by our allies — and our enemies are on notice.”
The unusually narrow confirmation for a defense secretary came after questions from members in both parties over Hegseth’s qualifications to lead the military, especially amid allegations of heavy alcohol use and aggressive behavior toward women.
For Hegseth, the challenges ahead are steep, as he takes charge of a sprawling bureaucracy at a time of severe challenges around the globe.

Reacting to the vote, Senate Democratic leader Charles Schumer of New York said Republicans have “entrusted the most powerful military in the world to someone with no experience, terrible judgment and serious flaws of character.”
“I hope for the sake of our troops and the good of our country that he can eventually grow into the job,” Schumer said on the Senate floor.
Hegseth faced allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman at a Republican conference in California, though he has denied the claims and said the encounter was consensual. He later paid $50,000 to the woman.
Hegseth also had promised during his confirmation hearings that he would not drink while on the job, were he to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, his opposition to women in combat became an issue after Trump announced his choice in November. But, in the face of questions from Congress, Hegseth appeared to shifted.
Asked about the issue on the “Megyn Kelly Show” in early December, Hegseth said he cares only that military standards are maintained. Women serve in combat, he said, and, “if we have the right standard and women meet that standard, roger. Let’s go.”
Hegseth told senators that he supports women in the military but wants to review standards to make sure they are not lowered to accommodate women.
At the swearing-in ceremony, a question directed to Hegseth about why women in the armed services should trust him was answered by Vance.
“All people in our armed services should trust him because he looks out for them and he is going to fight for them,” Vance said.

Chew personally thanked Trump for keeping TikTok online. The app is still blocked from newer model devices (for now). The U.S. Congress is by far the worst.

I didn't even know about women of color gone missing. All I heard about on mainstream social media are those Israeli female settlers and soliders released because of charade of a ceasefire. Israel has violated the ceasefire and are still conducting indiscriminate attacks on several sovereignties.
Those released are foreign nationals who hold Israeli citizenship. So that includes Americans who serve in the IDF but were captured. The U.S. media are given a press release from Israel stating the captured are girls and not soliders.
The junk food media gives the perception that Hamas is intentionally taking women for sex.
Israeli forces have raped, maimed, tortured and sodomized men, women and children. The Israelis defend this. They use dogs and tasers on people.

You know more about the Israeli women who were either settlers or IDF soliders being released from Gaza. They were given wall to wall coverage from U.S. media outlets.
Reyna Dunlap, 33 traveled from Maryland to Cleveland, Ohio. She went missing in Nov. 2024. She ended up being found dead in an abandoned home. She was there for a "Baddies" contest.
The auditions for the show were held in October. Dunlap has more than 80,000 followers on her social media X account, and 17,000 on Instagram.
Reyna was a social media influencer known as "The Nude Queen" had went missing for two months before they found her.
“This incident is believed to be an overdose,” a spokesperson for the Cleveland Police Department told Cleve Scene, noting that a final cause of death has yet to be shared. “Depending on that, we can determine what action we need to take."
Dunlap’s mother, Karen Jones, later addressed the authorities’ early findings.
“They suspected that it was an overdose. I said my daughter has never used hard drugs, talk to anybody,” she said in an interview with Cleveland’s 19 News published on Thursday, January 23. “I will stake my life that the toxicology is going to come back that she did not have any hard drugs in her system.”

The U.S. Marshals arrested a Canton fugitive Thursday at a home in southeast Columbus, police allege in court documents that he told them his ex-girlfriend's body was hidden in the basement.
In a probable cause affidavit, detectives allege that Darrell Carter Jr., 33, told them during an interview that he didn't call police when he found his ex-girlfriend dead Dec. 9 because of his outstanding warrants. Thirty-eight days later, he said he "didn't realize it would take so long" for police to find him.
Now, Carter faces a charge of abuse of a corpse in in his ex-girlfriend's death.
She was reported missing to Canton police and was last seen Dec. 3, though there were believed to be sightings in Columbus and Massilon.
Mekayala Martin, 17 is a missing teen from Richland County, South Carolina.
Deputies say Mekayla Martin was last seen on Dec. 30, 2024 off Mallet Hill Road.
Martin is known to have tattoos on the neck (“Princess”), chest (“Brittney”) and on both forearms. On one forearm is the word “W.A.Y.S.” and there is an unknown date on the other forearm.
Deputies say Martin is last known to be wearing a black wig, but is known to change her hair color.
Shaunie Owens, 43 has been missing since July 2024. Owens was last seen on July 19, 2024, near Caine Avenue and East 136th Street.

Owens, who struggled with addiction and mental health challenges, was reportedly living with two men who told police they kicked her out days before her disappearance.
According to a police report, Owens' daughter dropped off food to her mother on July 19.
An unknown man then called the daughter, saying Owens was “going crazy” and having a mental health episode.
Owens was wearing an ankle monitor when she vanished.
The last time it pinged was near East 155th and Harvard on July 19 at 4:00 a.m.
Owens is 5-feet tall and was last seen with short black hair with burgundy tips.
Her name is not listed on the Ohio Attorney General’s missing persons list, and there are no Facebook groups dedicated to finding her.

Desiree Simone Long, 33 is the only missing woman of color who was found. The U.S. Marshals did arrest her for outstanding warrants but at least she was found safe.
Lorain police said a U.S. Marshals Task Force found Long Tuesday at an apartment building in Cleveland.
“While there is currently no indication that Ms. Long was the victim of an abduction attempt, the circumstances remain under active investigation,” Lorain Police Cpt. Jacob A. Morris said in a news release.
The detective leading Long’s case previously told 19 News she was last seen leaving a home and getting into a car near West 29th Street and Oberlin Avenue in Lorain.
It’s unconfirmed if the person behind the wheel was a rideshare driver or someone she knew.

The bill also allows states to take action against the federal government if they determine it is in "violation of the detention and removal requirements" of the bill.
The amended version, which passed the Senate on January 20, includes the Cornyn Amendment, which provides for detaining illegal immigrants who are charged with or convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer, and the Ernst Amendment (nicknamed "Sarah's Law"), which includes detaining illegal immigrants who are charged with or convicted of a crime that results in death or serious bodily injury like manslaughter resulting from driving while intoxicated.

Anthony Leonard Platt, known for his hit songs "Walk it Out" and "2 Step," has died his record label confirmed, writing, "It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of a true ATL legend."
In a statement shared on Instagram, Big Oomp Records wrote that Platt was not "just a legendary DJ, rapper and producer, but a true cornerstone of our label and the imprint that he left globally will be cherished forever."
"Hit songs such as 'Walk It Out' and '2 Step' have left an indelible mark on the industry, and his legacy will continue to inspire artists, DJs, and fans alike for years to come. His energy, creativity, and commitment to the craft will never be forgotten," the statement read.

A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Deputy is fired out the cannon after she shot a man while doing a traffic stop. The man was a lawful conceal carry and the deputy patted him down. The deputy removed the firearm from his holster. She ended up shooting him in the leg. She also is being criminally charged for aggravated assault.
Jason Arrington did nothing wrong and still got shot.
The suspect is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The police officer has been fired after she accidentally shot a driver with his own gun during a traffic stop.
Officer Shaun Lowry, of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, stopped driver Jason Arrington for running a red light around 5:10 p.m. on December 13, 2024, according to an internal affairs report shared by the sheriff's office. Officers Mindy Cardwell and Austin Weippert assisted in the stop.
Arrington, who police described as "cooperative" during the stop, informed Lowry that he had a legal firearm on his body. He complied with instructions to step out of the vehicle, police said on social media.
Cardwell then went to remove the weapon, identified in the internal affairs reported as a Glock .45 semi-automatic pistol, from a holster on Arrington's waistband. According to the internal affairs report, Cardwell "put pressure on the trigger of the firearm, causing the weapon to fire a round into Arrington's right leg."
Arrington told investigators that Cardwell "jerked" the weapon several times, causing the discharge, according to the report. Cardwell told investigators that the holster was tight and "would not come off" Arrington's waistband, and said she had been using her non-dominant hand to remove the weapon.
Police released bodycamera footage of the incident from all three officers. After the gun goes off, Lowry can be heard yelling "Holy s---!" and Weippert can be heard asking Arrington if he is OK. Weippert and Lowry instructed Cardwell to put the gun down, and the pair then radioed for help. Weippert can be seen helping Arrington over to the side of the road, and began applying a tourniquet. Blood can be seen on Arrington's pants leg. Cardwell also helped provide first aid.
Arrington was transported to an area hospital in stable condition, the internal affairs report said. He told investigators that the injury had made it harder to do his job, which he said involved operating equipment like cranes and forklifts.
An internal affairs investigation into Cardwell's behavior was launched. A charge of incompetence was filed against Cardwell, and she has been fired, police said.
Cardwell had been "working in an off-duty capacity" under the office's Group Violence Intervention initiative, according to the report. The initiative is meant to reduce crime while fostering relationships between law enforcement and the public, local media reported.
The incident resulted in new policy from the sheriff's office about how to deal with encounters where someone is legally armed, according to the internal affairs report. Now, officers should not seize a firearm if a person is lawfully carrying it, according to the report.

The San Antonio Police are dealing with several of their own being shot.

Seven officers were shot during an hourslong armed standoff after they responded to a "suicide in progress" call in San Antonio on Wednesday night, authorities said.
Police were called shortly before 8:30 p.m. CT for "a suicide in progress" before a "second call came in for shots being fired" at an apartment complex on Stone Oak Parkway, police said in a statement.
At least one of the calls came from a relative of the suspect, San Antonio Police Chief William P. McManus told reporters at the scene.
McManus is the most incompetent police chief in history. He used to be police chief in Minneapolis and Dayton, Ohio.
Anyway, as officers arrived, "a female exited the apartment stating that the suspect was shooting inside, and he was coming out," according to the police statement.
The suspect, identified as Brandon Scott Poulos, 46, "then exited the apartment and opened fire on the responding officers, striking one officer in the leg," police said.
He shot six more officers more while he was barricaded in the property, police said.
All seven officers' injuries were not life-threatening, and they will all make "a full recovery," police said. They have been on the job four to eight years, police said.

The suspect took cover back inside the apartment, which touched off "several hours of negotiating, and other means to get the suspect to surrender peacefully," police said.
Police evacuated residents from the apartment block who could be safely moved, NBC affiliate WOAI of San Antonio reported.
Officers eventually got to the suspect, who was dead; it wasn't immediately clear whether he had shot himself or was killed by police.
"SWAT arrived on the scene and the suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment for several hours," McManus, the police chief, said in a video on Facebook.
"At the end of the event the suspect was found to be deceased. We don't know if he was shot by a self-inflicted wound or whether or not he was shot by SWAT officers," McManus said.
Neighbor Joseph Loredo said he heard a loud pop as he was studying before he went to his balcony to see at least two helicopters and heard more shots.
"When I went outside, I saw one of the SAPD officers had been shot,” he told WOAI. “It looked like a leg wound, because they were putting a tourniquet on him, and then they dragged him away."
Sheriff's deputies and a SWAT unit eventually joined the first officers to arrive.
"PD was actually firing back," Loredo said. "The person who's shooting actually shot a few of the officers. So I witnessed this. I saw at least a few of them get shot."

The suspect had been arrested Saturday on two counts of assault and one count of driving while intoxicated, McManus said.
