A New York state highway controller and his wife are being charged with attempted murder. It all stemmed from a wrong address and a delivery order. It happened in May and yet I just found out about it.

The DoorDasher probably was duped by those online trolls. They just do their jobs delivering food and groceries to locations. An upstate New York town official accused of shooting and wounding a food delivery person says he was protecting his family and has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other charges.

Ring doorbell camera footage shows John Reilly III, the highway superintendent in Chester, a town nearly 60 miles (96km) north of Manhattan, shooting at the DoorDash driver’s car on May 2nd as the person was trying to leave Reilly’s property. Prosecutors allege the shooting was unprovoked, saying the driver was lost and his cellphone battery was dead, as he only tried to see if Reilly had ordered the food he was trying to deliver.

He fires into the vehicle striking the DoorDash driver. Mind you, the driver fled.

But Reilly’s lawyer, Thomas Kenniff, said in a phone interview on Tuesday that Reilly, worried about a home invasion, was legally defending his family after the driver insisted on entering his home.

Reilly pleaded not guilty on Monday during an appearance at the Orange County courthouse in Goshen. The charges also include first-degree assault and weapons crimes. He did not comment while leaving the courthouse and remains free on bail.

The Orange County district attorney, David Hoovler, called the shooting a “horrifying” act of violence. The driver, who authorities have not named, was shot in the back and seriously wounded.

Video clips from Reilly’s Ring doorbell camera, obtained by TV station News 12 and the Times Union, show the series of events. One clip shows the driver walking up to Reilly’s front door with a plastic bag and ringing the doorbell. Another, from a short time later, appears to show the driver back in his car and Reilly exiting his house with a handgun. Reilly then fires a shot into his front lawn while saying, “Go.”

The video then shows Reilly shooting at the car as the driver is making a three-point turn in the driveway. He fires a third shot as the car is driving away.

Kenniff said the videos do not tell the full story.

Kenniff said Reilly’s 12-year-old daughter woke him up after the driver rang the doorbell and he answered the door, telling the driver he didn’t order any food. The driver, who was not wearing anything indicating he was from DoorDash, insisted on coming into the house to charge his phone, Kenniff said.

Kenniff alluded to the fact that there had previously been home invasion robberies “locally and around the country”, adding: “My client, I think quite reasonably … tells the gentleman to leave and advises that he’s going to get a gun that he uses for home protection, as a lot of people in rural areas justifiably do.”

Kenniff said Reilly fired shots in an attempt to get the driver to leave his property and didn’t intend to harm the man.

“I think that this was a situation where my client reasonably believed that there was a threat and he took actions to try to protect his home and protect his family, and unfortunately there may have been unintended consequences,” Kenniff said.

The shooter claims he was protecting his family. Why did his wife delete the encounter?

Kenniff and his firm also represented Daniel Penny, who was acquitted of criminally negligent homicide in December in connection with the chokehold death of Jordan Neely on a New York City subway in 2023.

Police executed a search warrant at Reilly’s house and seized eight illegally possessed guns, including the .45-caliber handgun used to shoot the driver, Hoovler said. While Reilly had a federal license to sell firearms, he did not have a New York state firearms license or pistol permit, making his possession of the guns illegal, Hoovler said.

“The unprovoked violence alleged in this case is truly horrifying,” Hoovler said in a statement.

Reilly's wife, Selina Nelson-Reilly, has since been indicted on charges of hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence. She is accused of initially denying knowledge of the incident to investigators and then permanently deleting 17 videos from the couple's smart doorbell camera that captured the shooting. 

The suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Ignoring the fact, these terrorists had signs of potential danger but their families thought it was just noise.

That restraining order doesn't mean much to a deranged individual. It's a trigger!

I wish things could have turned out well! But unfortunately, a shooter never abides to a court order!

How can a piece of paper protect a victim when it's not reliant on stopping the perpetrator (from causing harm)?

The real issue is gun violence. Not comedians. Not activists. Not Black men. Not immigrants. Not Muslims. Not transgender Americans. Not video games. Not movies. Not rap music. Not the left.

A man made crisis that can be solved if these incompetent politicians and media agitators stop making excuses for the continued gun violence epidemic. Instead offering words, how about policies?

Again, having more security, teachers being armed and offering safe rooms are not solving the problem. The problem is lawmakers not willing to stop gun violence.

According to the far right: White shooters are always mentally ill or lone wolves. The far right believes they should receive some sympathy for their crimes. Black shooters are unrepentant thugs and criminals who deserve lengthy time in the iron college or death. Gay and transgender shooters are active groomers who want to be pedophiles on children. Muslim shooters are terrorists who should be surveiled or deported. Hispanic and Asian shooters are illegal immigrants and they should be deported. According to the far right, almost all white [or non-white] mass shooters are registered Democrats [leftist or some progressive activist] because they have liked or done one thing common to the politics of the left. Of course, they often share or post disinformation by using the ridiculous "Sam Hyde" meme or make bogus social media platforms with the shooter's image as a way to denounce most mass shooters being white or associated with conservative causes. The far right says a white person should "protect" themselves from thugs, terrorists or protesters. They believe the use of firearms are "justified" if they are protesting or even instigating a conflict. The far right believes if a shooter is a police officer, an active military member, a veteran or a citizen who supports conservative causes, they are considered a "heroes" and use of firearms are justified. If the shooters are teens in urban communities, the far right automatically assume the gunmen are Black. Even if the evidence turns out that the shooter has alignment with conservative causes or Republicans, the far right dismisses it as a hoax or a plot to demonize the MAGA movement.

The Republicans usually amplify white victims. Anytime a person of color kills a white victim, it is often wall-to-wall coverage on Fox, Twitter and they force it into national news. They make the case to blame Black Lives Matter, Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Democrats, Rev. Al Sharpton and rap music for Black on whatever violence. Republican lawmakers who do not live in urban neighborhoods often troll social media to talk about gun violence or crime in Chicago, Baltimore, Milwaukee and New York City while not doing a damn thing to stop it. If a white person shoots a Black person, the shooter is given the benefit of doubt. White shooters are given glowing profiles about their perfect lives and how friends noticed something but refused to do something. When it comes to Black shooters, automatic vilification. They don't see mental illness. They see it as gang violence, allegedly fatherless homes, Democratic policies or the need for more firearms.

Your local community member, your school board member, your mayor, your state representative, your state senator, your governor, your U.S. Representative, your U.S. Senator and the president need to be held accountable for their actions.

We need to put pressure on Republicans and Democrats to do something to improve everyone's lives.

Keep pressure on them with Israel. 

Israel must be held accountable for war crimes and the U.S. must end its aid. 

Our taxpayer money should not help Israel any further.

Republicans have extremely unpopular ideas. They will find out the risk of supporters being turned off by their policies.

Expect more gun violence from people who are quick to take lives instead of letting the police handle the matter. Oh, police take lives too.

Biden, Harris and the Democratic Party failed at understanding what is more important to the country. Trump, Vance and the Republican Party have already failed at understanding.

Both parties support of Israel had made some Arab Americans, Muslim and young voters vote against them. They have cost Biden a second term and Harris a historical victory.

It was conducted in Dearborn, Michigan, the largest city in the United States with an Arab American majority. The city has 105,000 residents and is considered Wayne County, Michigan's second largest community.

They can clearly promote the whole "Jihadist plot" that was supposedly to be carried out on Halloween but ignore all the motives of a white man who rammed his truck into a Mormon church in Flint. You know he killed a lot of people and set the church on fire.

FBI Director Kash Patel allegedly used resources to see his not honey trap girlfriend.

The FBI arrested several suspects on Friday who were allegedly plotting a terrorist attack in Michigan over the Halloween weekend, Director Patel said.

“This morning the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend,” Patel wrote in a statement on X.

They not getting paid but they're still doing their jobs.

Federal agents took five people from Dearborn and Inkster, Michigan, into custody for an alleged plot to conduct an attack in the U.S. that has a connection to ISIS extremism, according to three senior law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation.

The so called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. This is known as Daesh, a transnational Salafi jihadist militant organisation and an unrecognised quasi-state. They are called terrorists by the West. 

The five are naturalized citizens from a Middle Eastern country who had access to firearms and firearm training, two senior law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation say.

Again, it is a right for all citizens to have firearms. But again if you're Black, Arab, Muslim or an immigrant, the far right often calls for restrictions or considers it terrorism.

Three senior law enforcement officials say that no specific targets have been identified so far in the course of the investigation, which remains ongoing. That means the evidence is flimsy and the feds are trying to stick something on the arrested individuals.

What the allegations state that five gamer nerds were talking on some Twitch site and allegedly a Zionist turned the in.

The officials said the group had discussed carrying out some sort of terror attack around Halloween — or what they allegedly referred to as “pumpkin day.” The officials said that was why the FBI made the arrests Friday, even though it was not immediately clear if the suspects had decided on a set time to try to move forward with any attack.

Two separate senior law enforcement officials say the group in Michigan had been tracked leading up to the arrests.

It was not immediately clear what, if any, specific targets had been identified.

Two officials said investigators are looking into whether the group was self-radicalized.

The names of the five individuals have not yet been made public as the court documents appear to still be sealed.

Officials stressed there is no current threat to the public.

Laraib Irfan said he lives two doors away from a home where loud bangs preceded the entrance of FBI agents on Friday.

"It was like a whole movie scene, but, you know, in reality it was scary," Irfan said.

He said he watched people he knew as "friendly neighbors, good neighbors" be removed from the residence. "They were just told to step outside of the home, and, you know, they had them in handcuffs," Irfan said.

It all had him wondering what they're accused of and whether law enforcement got it right, Irfan said.

"They're very friendly to us, very cool," he said. "Hopefully the FBI got the wrong house."

In a statement Friday afternoon, Patel said his agents' actions may have prevented a tragedy.

“Through swift action and close coordination with our local partners, a potential act of terror was stopped before it could unfold," he said. "The vigilance of this FBI prevented what could have been a tragic attack — and thanks to their dedication, Michigan will have a safe and happy Halloween.”

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said in a post on X that Patel briefed her “on the thwarted potential terrorist attack in our state" Friday morning. "As details continue to develop, I am grateful for the swift action of the FBI and MSP protecting Michiganders," she wrote.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said state authorities were "in consultation with the FBI" on the arrests.

Dearborn police confirmed in a Facebook post that the FBI carried out an operation there on Friday morning.

“The Dearborn Police Department has been made aware that the FBI conducted operations in the City of Dearborn earlier this morning,” police said, before adding that there was no threat to the public.

The suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) yelled at police and called them “fucking incompetent” during a meltdown at the Charleston International Airport on Thursday, according to a police report first obtained by Wired.

Mace was apparently upset after officers with the Charleston County Aviation Authority Police Department arrived late to a meetup spot at the airport to escort the congresswoman.

That’s when the expletives began to fly, according to the report.

After officers located Mace, she began “loudly cursing and making derogatory comments to us about the department,” the report, obtained by Wired, said. “She repeatedly stated we were ‘Fucking incompetent,’ and ‘this is no way to treat a fucking U.S. Representative.’”

The report adds that a Transportation Security Administration supervisor also had problems with Mace, telling officers that the congresswoman treated their staff poorly.

“The entire walk to gate B-8 she was cursing and complaining and often doing the same into her phone,” an officer said in the report. Another officer noted that after “several minutes with her continuing her tirade, she finally boarded the aircraft.”

After Mace departed, a gate agent for American Airlines told officers that “he was in disbelief regarding her behavior,” according to the report. “He implied that a US Representative should not be acting the way she was.”

In a statement to Wired and The Washington Post, Mace’s director of operations, Cameron Morabito, said they are forced to take Mace’s “safety extremely seriously” following the killing of right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk.

“Apparently, simply arriving at an airport now makes for a worthy headline,” the statement said. “We are forced to take the Congresswoman’s safety extremely seriously. After the world watched Charlie Kirk’s assassination, the threats against her have only intensified. Our security procedures are based solely on legitimate safety concerns, and any attempt to politicize this reality is both dangerous and reckless.”

Former California representative Katie Porter is now running for California governor. The Politico had wrote a hit piece about her temper. She went off a former staffer when she was conducting an interview. Her latest outburst involved a loaded question about President Donald J. Trump and his supporters.

Trump has labeled Nigeria a state of concern. 

The Nigerian government which is kicking out Western back corporations is under the far right's radar. It has a huge issue with Western-back capitalism. Nigeria is devoted to taking soverignty of its resources.

Nigeria has long rejected suggestions by some U.S. evangelical Christian groups and politicians that killings of Christians are a deliberate campaign of extermination rather than being part of ongoing violence by resistance fighters and bandits who also routinely kill Muslims in the West African nation.

A worsening relationship between the United States and Nigeria, which could now face potential sanctions, could have implications for the U.S. position more generally in Africa, where China’s diplomatic weight has been growing.

Nigeria, whose population is about evenly split between Christians and Muslims, has been beset by decades of violence whose roots lie not only in religion, but in ethnic division, criminality, local politics, poverty and battles over land between farmers and herders that have been exacerbated by shifts in the climate.

Trump has opened the door for sanctions to be imposed on Nigeria for allegedly failing to rein in the persecution of Christians in the West African country.

Trump announced Friday that he would designate Nigeria “a country of particular concern” as it relates to religious freedom, a move that had been pushed by some U.S. lawmakers.

The designation does not necessarily mean that sanctions, which could include a ban on all non-humanitarian aid, will be imposed, but it is one step ahead of that.

“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria,” Trump said in a social media post. “Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN.’”

The Nigerian government vehemently rejects the claims, and analysts say that while Christians are among those targeted, the majority of victims of armed groups are Muslims in Nigeria’s Muslim-majority north, where most attacks occur.

Trump said he would be asking several U.S. lawmakers to look into the matter and report back on what the response to the designation should be.

“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!” Trump said.

Designating a “country of particular concern” under the 1998 International Religious Freedom Act is an executive prerogative that normally follows recommendations from both the congressionally mandated U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom and the State Department.

The State Department usually releases its annual Report on International Religious Freedom in the spring, but has not yet done so this year. The report may or may not include “particular concern” designations, which can be done at any time. And, such designations, which authorize U.S. penalties, do not necessarily impose sanctions.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took over in August 2025 after Muhammadu Buhari passed away. 

The State Department’s most recent religious freedom reports cover 2023 and were released last year under the Biden administration. These reports, like others on broader human rights and human trafficking, cover the previous calendar year and are often late in being submitted.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has been trying to rally fellow evangelical Christians to urge Congress to designate Nigeria as a violator of religious freedom with claims of “Christian mass murder.”

He called Trump’s action “a critical step in holding accountable and changing the behavior of Nigerian officials.” Cruz said his legislation would take it further, including targeting those who implement blasphemy and sharia laws in Nigeria.

“I am committed to working with the administration and my colleagues to advance my bill and implement these necessary measures,” Cruz said in his statement.

Nigeria was first placed on the “country of particular concern” list by the U.S. in 2020 in what the State Department called “systematic violations of religious freedom.” But, the designation did not single out attacks on Christians. The designation was lifted in 2023 in what many saw as a way to improve ties between the countries ahead of a visit by then-Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The safety net is only 10% of the federal spending. The way some people put it, 50% of the federal spending goes to food stamps and welfare. Some people believe that the safety net is making people lazy. And this is the stuff I've heard from people who think that it will never happen to them. They're gased up over a person using an EBT card to pay for name brand items or expensive food.

With the rising food and gas prices, people are turning to food stamps, food banks and government assistance to keep themselves from landing in the homeless shelter.

Without a safety net, these people will rob and kill those who have the luxuries of having food in the refrigerator or in the pantry. They would steal fuel, water, bread and meat to keep feeding their families. And yet, President Donald J. Trump, Republicans and their conservative allies are thinking the poor are the reasons for the economic consequences. Perhaps those who complain about the poor, should walk a day in that person's shoes!

On Saturday, the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will run out of money amid the ongoing government shutdown that began on Oct. 1. The government partially shut down nearly a month ago after the Senate failed to muster the votes necessary to pass a Republican-sponsored funding bill. Even though Republicans control the chamber 53-47, 60 votes are needed to overcome a procedural hurdle to move the bill forward. Democrats said they won’t support any funding bill unless it contains an extension of healthcare premium subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, which are slated to expire on Dec. 31.

As Nov. 1 has drawn closer, recipients of SNAP benefits – often called food stamps – have taken center stage in national media coverage.  According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, SNAP served 41.7 million Americans across 22 million households per month in 2024.

Democrats should just say Republicans are big government nannies.

They want to control what you eat. By cutting food stamps and regulating food content, they want you to stay committed to foods that are deemed unhealthy. They want to pull back regulations and allow contaminants into the food and water supply.

By cutting Medicare, the insurance premiums will increase, companies will opt out of employer mandated insurance, more people will go into debt if they can't pay their medical bills, more Americans will avoid doctors, dentists, veterinarians and therapists.

They want to control what you want to do for luxury. So if you want to smoke marijuana or e-cigarettes they'll ban you from doing those. 

You want look at adult entertainment on your computer, you can't do it. Because Republicans want to "protect" children. Instead of stopping gun violence, bullying and suicide, we want to regulate pornography, video games, music and television shows.

But if you want to stockpile firearms and explosives, go for it. You want to own semi automatic firearms? Go for it! 

They have explicit ratings on adult magazines, video games, music and television but don't put explicit ratings on talk radio or opinion talk shows. It's free speech.

Cars, motorcycles, buses, trains, airplanes have regulations but not firearms.

They want to control when you want to have sex. They want to outlaw a woman's right to sell her body for sex. They want to ban same sex couples from adopting children or removing biological children from homes of same sex couples. They want to tell young children when it's right to have sex. 

They want to control a woman's right to choice. A woman who doesn't want children or is raped by a sexual predator is forced to have a child. States and federal governments want to close the window of conception to force women to endure dangerous pregnancies.

They want to force religion into your schools, government buildings and workplace. They want to force nationalized Christianity and Judaism in public schools. 

They ridicule Islam, Satanism, Buddism and Hindu religion as evil. 

They don't want agnostic or atheists working in government. They want to punish dissent if you criticize Israel, Trump, Charlie Kirk or the American flag. 

They want to ban books. They want to avoid critical race theory. They want you to honor Christopher Columbus, slave owning presidents, Trumpism and Reaganism. They want to rewrite how conservative causes and white supremacy led to chaos. 

They want to punish people who destroyed confederate statues, roads and buildings.

They want you to pledge allegiance to foreign countries like Israel. 

They want you to sign loyalty oaths, block financial assistance and entry into the United States if you support resistance group, accused terrorists or countries that oppose American influence. 

They want you to support Israel, no matter what. They don't believe Israel and Russia are meddling in our elections.

They want you to accept foreign influences in our elections.

Americans can't get necessary child care in this economy. Mothers are struggling to take care of their children. Daycares are closing due to the subsidies drying up. Many daycares and nursing home workers are being overworked to a point where they're literally walking out leaving those in their care vulnerable.

Frst things first, Congress wants Americans to get back to work. We are dealing with a worker shortage. Many Americans are not going to work for less than $35,000 a year. They want better wages, affordable healthcare, better roads and bridges, better lighting, safer work conditions, workable hours, easy access to the safety net and less partisanship in Washington, DC.

I want lawmakers to do their jobs. I don't want lawmakers who act like activists. I don't want lawmakers who stall legislation but take credit for it when it benefits their constituents. I want the U.S. to aid countries in need of assistance only in natural disasters.

Rep. Clay Higgins III (R-LA) is a former corrupt law enforcement officer. He has a notorious history as a St. Landry Parish, Louisiana Captain with violent encounters towards Black motorists.

Higgins and former corrupt cop, Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) have promoted Trump and his authoritarian policies. They openly called for the deportation of Muslim lawmakers Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). They've taken trips to Israel and watched the occupation show new tactics to law enforcement in the United States. 

Higgins is married to his fourth wife. His previous marriages were nightmares. One of his wives mysteriously died in a car accident. He put the burner to one of his ex-wife's head when she thought he was cheating. He has a violent temper and had altercation with activists as wells as members of Congress. There are signs of a violent person but hey, he is elected in gerrymandered heavily favored Republican district. So no problems here.

He has a net worth of  X < $1,000. He has child support and spousal support issues.

Higgins took to X on Thursday and said SNAP beneficiaries should have been stockpiling at least one month’s supply of food. For good measure, he told them to “stop smoking crack.”

“There are 22 million American households receiving SNAP benefits for groceries, at $4200 per year on average,” he wrote. “Try to get your head wrapped around how many pantries you can stock with $4200 dollars in properly shopped groceries. Any American who has been receiving $4200 dollars per year of free groceries and does NOT have at least 1 month of groceries stocked should never again receive SNAP, because wow, stop smoking crack.”

Words are not affecting me. His free speech doesn't affect me paying rent, food or bills.

However, his actions are affecting me and millions of working class Americans. It is a damn shame that our federal and state lawmakers have the least amount of working days in a year. They are constitutionally obligated to running the government the American people elected them for. While it is not the most pleasant job in the world, the opportunity to make a difference in your district or state is worth the risk.

Days of decline are ahead.

King, a longtime media personality with CBS and Oprah Winfrey is not leaving the network entirely. However as the host of CBS Mornings since they plucked her from Oprah Winfrey Network will be a shocking development.

King is expected to leave the show next year when her contract expires, although she may shift to a different role at the network. 

CBS News declined to confirm Variety's report, but said in a statement: "There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026. She's a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future." (TVLine has reached out to CBS for comment.) 

King joined CBS News in 2011 as one of the hosts of what was then called "CBS This Morning." She's remained there ever since, with the show rebranding as "CBS Mornings" in 2021. King is currently joined by co-hosts Nate Burleson and Tony Dokoupil.

King's exit is just the latest move in a far-reaching overhaul of CBS News after Bari Weiss was hired as CBS News' editor-in-chief following parent company Paramount's merger with Skydance Media. Earlier this week, "CBS Evening News" co-anchor John Dickerson announced he was leaving the network after 16 years.

No Cop Walk For Sonya Massey Killer!

A former Illinois police officer can't say he feared for his life. He literally lynched an unarmed woman because she was speaking gibberish. He claimed she was attempted to throw hot water at him. Sean Grayson is pleading mercy because he has cancer and he is hoping he can see his family. The judge and jury will decide his fate which is likely 15 years to LIFE sentence.

Seeing he can enjoy the life, he shows no remorse for shooting Sonya Massey. Lynching that poor woman. To make this even worse, she called for help and ended up being killed.

Had President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris addressed this more and listened to the concerns about Israel, we wouldn't see the second coming of President Donald J. Trump and his new Vice President, JD Vance.

Trump as we speak is dismantling the U.S. through authoritarianism which rolls back set precedents Biden put forth when it comes to law enforcement.

The Democratic Party failed to pass legislation like The George Floyd Policing Act. Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema and John Fetterman blocked every fucking bill in Biden's final years. 

Trump got in and passed the Laken Riley Act which now gives police more leeway when they are arresting immigrants and potentially violent offenders. They put more protections on police when they use deadly force. A huge rollback on civil rights, civil liberties, free speech and other freedoms.

Grayson was found guilty on Wednesday of second-degree murder in the 2024 death of Sonya Massey, a Black mother of two who had called 911 about a possible prowler.

Grayson was charged with first-degree murder, but jury instructions included the option to convict him of the lesser charge of second-degree murder.

Jurors deliberated for almost 12 hours after closing arguments ended late Tuesday morning. Grayson’s family cried and held hands as the verdict was read.

Outside the courthouse, protesters celebrated the guilty verdict and chanted, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus."

Attorneys Ben Crump and Antonio Romanucci, who represented her family in a $10 million civil settlement, said that they believe Grayson’s actions warranted a first-degree murder conviction but that it was "still a measure of justice for Sonya Massey."

"I'm fueled by rage right now," Sontae Massey, one of Sonya's cousins, said outside the courthouse. "If you get an officer who says he’s going to shoot you in the face, and then he shoots you in the face, and you only get second-degree murder?"

Former federal prosecutor Mark Chutkow said the defense made a "strategic decision" to include the second-degree murder charge.

"The prosecution likely felt confident about their case and was willing to go for an all-or-nothing verdict. But the defense did not want to take that chance, so they advocated for a lesser included charge," he told NBC News.

Had Democrats passed police reform during the elections, we would have Joe Biden or Kamala Harris as president.

Grayson was charged in July 2024 in the fatal shooting of Massey, who had called authorities over concerns about the possible prowler outside her Springfield home. Body camera video shows the moments she was shot and killed in her kitchen during a confrontation over a pot of boiling water.

Her death led to calls for justice and protests across the country and reignited scrutiny about law enforcement shootings of Black people in their homes. Grayson is white.

"There's a difference in this country when you have my skin color and Grayson's skin color. We need serious justice, not a miscarriage of justice that happened here in Peoria," Wilburn said.

In Illinois, the Sonya Massey Act was signed in August, requiring stricter background checks in police hiring.

Grayson was an asshole from the jump when he talked to Sonya.

Last week, Grayson's former partner, Deputy Dawson Farley, testified that he was not scared by any of Massey’s actions. He said he drew his weapon because he was "trying to back my partner."

In closing arguments, the defense pointed out that Farley amended his police report after Grayson was charged with first-degree murder, arguing Farley lied and changed his account.

The body camera video central to this case was played in the courtroom three times, showing Massey talking to the deputies and removing a pot of hot water from her stove shortly before the shooting.

On Monday, Grayson took the stand in his own defense, telling the court that he believed Massey was going to throw the boiling water on him after she said, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus."

He testified that he took her remark as a threat and that that is why he drew his firearm. Grayson said he did not try to use his stun gun because he was not sure whether it would work because of her clothing.

"I didn’t want to take the chance of the Taser malfunctioning," he said.

In closing arguments Tuesday, First Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Beth Rodgers said Massey made no sudden movements and complied "peacefully" with the order to drop the pot of water.

"'I’m sorry.' That is the last thing Sonya Massey said before the defendant murdered her, just like he said he would," she told the jury.

Grayson watches how he single handedly cost himself his freedom.

"He wants you to believe he was scared, but you don’t have to believe that, because it’s not true," Rodgers said.

Rodgers argued that Grayson did not get to claim self-defense justified his shooting because he provoked the use of force himself.

Daniel Fultz, Grayson’s attorney, said Massey did initially comply and put the pot down, but "she escalated the situation when she picked the pot back up, stood up, raised it over her head and began to throw it."

He argued that Grayson drew his weapon to gain Massey's compliance and said her death "was a tragedy, but it was not a crime."

"You are not here to decide whether or not Sean Grayson followed every single policy, every national best practice, every policing principle that experts believe he should have followed," he said in his closing argument. "That is not what we are doing in this criminal court today."

No remorse for his actions.

Fultz said Grayson believed his pistol was his only option, and he highlighted expert testimony that Grayson had to advance toward Massey to maintain a line of sight on her.

Fultz asked jurors not to let their emotions dictate the outcome of the case.

In Sangamon County State's Attorney John Milhiser's final closing argument to the jury, he argued that it was Grayson who let his emotions dictate what happened in Massey's kitchen.

"These were not the actions of a scared young police officer doing a dangerous job. These are the actions of a bully," Milhiser said. “If anyone was in crisis, it was him. He snapped.”

Deadline details the controversial changes to the network.

Paramount’s cuts across the company hit CBS News on Wednesday, with the streaming editions of CBS Mornings and the CBS Evening News canceled and CBS Saturday Morning in for an overhaul, according to a source familiar with the plans.

The network also is closing its bureau in Johannesburg.

In all, the layoffs are impacting close to 100 CBS News staffers, according to sources familiar with the extent of the cuts. They are part of a round of layoffs impacting about 1,000 across Paramount following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount Global. Another round of 1,000 job cuts is expected in the coming months.

“People are very on-edge,” said one staffer, describing the mood as “depressed and unhappy” and “a very tough day at the network.”

The cuts were in the works before Weiss was named editor in chief of the news division this month.

The two hosts of CBS Saturday Morning, Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, will be departing, according to a source familiar with the cuts. Jeff Glor, the previous host and former anchor of CBS Evening News, was laid off in a previous round of cuts last year, as Paramount Global slimmed down in preparation for a sale. The weekday CBS Mornings team will now oversee the Saturday show.

CBS News cancels Saturday Morning. Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson are out.

Also impacted by the cuts were correspondents Nikki Battiste and Janet Shamlian, the source said. Senior foreign correspondent Debora Patta, who has been reporting on the war in Gaza, has been based in Johannesburg. The Los Angeles Times reported that she was laid off as well, but a network spokesperson has declined to comment.

CBS Mornings Plus debuted last year as a streaming third hour of the network’s morning program, hosted by Adriana Diaz and Tony Dokoupil. CBS Evening News Plus was anchored by John Dickerson, who announced this week he was leaving the network at the end of the year.

The layoffs are said to be spread throughout the news division. They are only the latest cuts at a legacy media outlet this year. NBC News announced layoffs of about 150 staffers as it prepared for the split from sister network MSNBC, which is being spun off along with other Comcast cable networks into a new company, Versant. There were significant layoffs to teams devoted to diversity verticals, such as NBC Out and NBC Blk, although those online sites will continue.

The Writers Guild of America East, which represents employees in the news division, issued a joint statement with the Writers Guild of America West on the Paramount cuts. “Today, we once again see the toll on media workers and the news industry caused by unfettered corporate consolidation. The WGAE and WGAW are working with impacted members to ensure our collective bargaining agreements are enforced and labor law is followed in these layoffs at Paramount Skydance.”

A recent interview reveals the identity of a baby who inspired the single "Brenda's Got A Baby" off the debut album 2Pacalypse Now.

Jeff Pearlman located Devonn Hodge and helped him reconnect with his mother after 30 years, a story detailed in Pearlman's new Tupac biography, Only God Can Judge Me. Hodge has since shared his story in interviews, including with podcast All The Smoke.  

Pearlman recalled Shakur was filming Juice. He read a story from the New York Daily News about a 12 year old girl who was sexually assaulted by a cousin. She was unaware of her pregnancy. She gave birth to a baby. Afraid of her parents, she dropped the newborn into a garbage chute.

The baby inside the compactor was crying and the tenants of building heard the cries and rescued the baby before the trash compactor crushed.

The baby was later adopted and grew up without knowledge of his ordeal.

The Grio reported in a sitdown with Matt Barnes for his All The Smoke podcast, Pearlman and Hodge discussed how “Brenda’s Got A Baby” came to be and how Hodge was eventually located and reconnected with his birth mother.

“2Pac was filming Juice, his first movie, and one day he gets an article, he reads the New York Daily News because he got the newspaper every day,” Pearlman said, revealing the incident occurred in 1990. “There’s an article, Cries in the Dark. He reads it and it’s about a 12-year-old girl in public housing in Brooklyn, who was raped by a cousin, gave birth to the baby on the floor, wrapped the baby in an odd job plastic bag, threw the baby down a trash heap.”

As revealed in the original article, the 12-year-old mother threw the baby down a garbage chute on disposal day. Luckily, someone heard the child’s cries and was able to rescue them.

“They take the baby to the hospital, and they later take the mother to the hospital,” Pearlman continued. “2Pac reads this article, and he says to Omar Epps, his co-star, ‘Holy sh-t.’ Goes into his trailer, he says, ‘Leave me alone for a little.’”

Eventually, Pac would return with the opening verse for “Brenda’s Got A Baby.” Pearlman eventually tracked down a genealogist who helped him track down the child who inspired one of Pac’s signature songs and within a week, Pearlman met with Hodge.

Hodge says it took a $99 ancestry DNA test to “unlock” the shocking truth. “I found out a little bit before Jeff,” Hodge said. “As soon as I did the ancestry test, I reached out to the closest family members on there. When you do an ancestry test, you never know what’s going to pop up. I wasn’t really doing it for the family side, it was more of the diaspora side.”

Hodge’s parents passed away months apart, prompting him to take the test. The news prompted him to call a relative, who later put him in contact with several other people who shared similar stories.

“They’re showing me the newspaper clips of back in the day and was telling me about what happened,” he said. “It would have been hard for them to find me, to be honest with you. My last name changed. … My mom did a good job sheltering me from that exposure.”

Hodge revealed his adoptive mother never revealed what happened to his biological mother or that she was raped. He also declined to name her due to increased media coverage surrounding the story.

“Me and my mom had visitation rights till I was around two,” Hodge said. “I lived 32 years without knowing, Listening to this song my whole life, you know what I’m saying?”

Pearlman didn’t stop with finding Hodge. He eventually found Hodge’s birth mother and the two reconnected in Las Vegas earlier this year, ending her 20-year search for her son.

Dr. Anca Faur Aldrin Passed Away!

Buzz Aldrin lost his wife to terminal cancer.

To imagine that you died before your wife. Especially at his age.

One of the first Americans who walked on the moon is still alive. The former astronaut, physicist and media personality Buzz Aldrin lost his longtime wife Dr. Anca Faur Aldrin at the age of 66.

Faur Aldrin died on Tuesday just two years after the couple wed, according to a statement posted Wednesday on Facebook by the Faur and Aldrin families.

“Dr. Anca Aldrin, wife of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, peacefully passed away last night with her husband and her son, Vlad Ghenciu by her side,” the statement read.

Faur was “an accomplished chemical engineer with a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh” and “served as the treasurer for the California Hydrogen Business Council and as Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC,” the statement noted.

In a separate message in the statement, Aldrin, 95, paid tribute to his late wife, whom he wed during a small ceremony on his 93rd birthday in 2023.

I was shocked that despite the annoying antics of President Donald J. Trump, Buzz endorsed him in 2024.

Aldrin, 95, who made history along with Neil Armstrong as the first humans to set foot on the surface of the moon, said the wedding took place on Friday, which was his 93rd birthday.

“I am pleased to announce that my longtime love and partner, Dr. Anca V Faur, and I have tied the knot. We were joined in holy matrimony in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles, and are as excited as eloping teenagers,” he wrote.

The post received 53,000 Facebook “likes” and “loves” by Saturday and was accompanied by several photos of the newlyweds.

On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin made their historic walk on the lunar surface, fulfilling a vow by the late President John F. Kennedy to send a manned crew to the moon and safely return them to Earth. Michael Collins was the third member of the crew.

“I am so fortunate to have found and married the love of my life,” Aldrin, the second person to ever walk on the moon during the 1969 Apollo 11 mission, said of Faur. “She brought joy to everything we did together. I will miss her dearly.”

Elsewhere in the statement, the families requested privacy “in their time of mourning.”

The former fighter pilot gushed about his wife in an interview with People in 2023, affectionately calling her the “Wizard of Oz package.”

“When I met Anca I instantly recognized that here was a woman who is the whole Wizard of Oz package: Brains. Heart. Courage,” he said at the time. “There is something special about her and the way we connect so well.”

Meanwhile, Faur told People of their relationship, “We both felt deep in our hearts all these years that marrying each other felt right. That said, we were having such a wonderful courtship we felt no need to rush things.”

Aldrin was previously married to Joan Archer from 1954 to 1974, Beverly Van Zile from 1975 to 1978, and Lois Driggs Cannon from 1988 to 2012.
