Fatman Scoop Passed Away!

Fatman Scoop passed away from an apparent heart attack.

Brooklyn rapper and deejay Fatman Scoop had passed away. He was performing in Connecticut at a local show and immediately after he hyped up the crowd he collapsed.

The medics tried to revive him but to no avail.

Eerily similar to Big Pokey and BeatKing.

His family confirmed his death in an Instagram post on Saturday. He was 53.

"It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop," a post on his Instagram page read. "Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life."

The rapper and hype man, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, was performing at the Green and Gold Party summer concert in Hamden, about six miles from New Haven, when he suffered a medical emergency on stage.

The town's mayor said he was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Video posted on social media showed a shirtless Fatman Scoop hyping up the crowd at the Town Center Park shortly before collapsing. The event was scheduled to happen last month but because of weather, it was postponed to Friday night.

Fatman Scoop has worked with some of the biggest musicians, including on Missy Elliott’s "Lose Control" and Mariah Carey’s "It's Like That."

"FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage," his family wrote. "FatMan Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten."

Fatman Scoop was an American rapper, hype man, and radio personality. Noted for his booming, raw vocal presence on various hip hop songs, he was best known for his guest performances on the 2005 singles "Lose Control" by Missy Elliott and "It's Like That" by Mariah Carey. The songs peaked at numbers three and 16 respectively on the Billboard Hot 100, while the former won the Grammy Award for Best Music Video and received a nomination for Best Rap Song. Prior, his 1999 sleeper hit single, "Be Faithful" (featuring the Crooklyn Clan) entered the Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs charts, and peaked the UK Singles Chart in 2003.

He had celebrated his 53rd birthday on Aug. 6 and passed away on Aug. 31.

Fatman Scoop first came to prominence with the release of single "Be Faithful", which topped the charts in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland in October 2003, and peaked within the top ten of the charts in Denmark and Australia. The song had been a favorite in clubs around the world for years but it took two years to clear the samples from Jay-Z, Black Sheep, Queen Pen, The Beatnuts and Faith Evans.[citation needed] He collaborated with numerous artists, such as Lil Jon, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Pitbull and Skrillex, among others.[citation needed]

In 2004, he featured in the UK TV series Chancers, broadcast on Channel 4, mentoring six British musicians trying to achieve success in the United States.

In July 2006, a club promoter in New Bern, North Carolina sued the Sheriff of Craven County, North Carolina after a 2003 concert held there was shut down by the sheriff due to a noise complaint. The suit asked for more than $10,000 (US$) in lost wages and punitive damages.

Fatman Scoop owned an ice cream parlor and hosted a relationship show/podcast. He also appeared as himself on the TV series The Boondocks (season 2, episode 5, "The Story of Thugnificent" and episode 15, "The Story of Gangstalicious Part 2", from the same season); however since the show premiered, the relationship between Fatman Scoop and his wife soured and they subsequently divorced.

On August 27, 2015, he entered the Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs. USA house in the United Kingdom as a contestant. On September 14, he was the third housemate to be evicted, on day 20 where he finished in 11th place.[citation needed] In July 2018, Scoop featured on the remix to Ciara's single "Level Up", which also featured Missy Elliott; the single remix was the first song to feature all three artists since 2005's "Lose Control".

In July 2024, Fatman Scoop collaborated with Tech N9ne on the single "No Popcorn". On August 30, 2024, Scoop released two singles: "Let It Go", with Dyce Payso, and "Our House", alongside Dutch electronic music act Bingo Players & American DJ team Disco Fries.
