An independent, a Republican and Democrat test positive for the coronavirus. The senators were vaccinated and the breakthrough cases are increasing. The need for the booster shot as well as a more permanent vaccine is needed.
Sen. Angus King (I-ME), Sen.Karen Wicker (R-MS) and Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) tested positive for the disease.
The trio has the "breakthrough" infections.
Wicker was first to announce a positive test on Thursday. He said he is current in isolation in Tupelo, Mississippi. Then came the independent senator King who caucuses with Democrats. King announced on Thursday he tested positive for the coronavirus.
Hickenlooper came last. He announced shortly after the two made their confirmation.
"I've tested positive for a breakthrough case of COVID-19. I feel good but I will isolate per docs instructions," said Hickenlooper on social media. "I'm grateful for the vaccine (& the scientists behind it!) for limiting my symptoms. If you haven't gotten your shot -- get it today! And a booster when it's available too!"
"Senator Wicker tested positive this morning for the COVID-19 virus after immediately seeking a test due to mild symptoms," his communication director said in a statement.
"Senator Wicker is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, is in good health, and is being treated by his Tupelo-based physician. He is isolating, and everyone with who Senator Wicker has come in close contact recently has been notified."
The Capitol Physician gave all members of the Senate and House of Representatives a dire warning.
He said start wearing mask and get vaccinated. The Republicans refused to comply to the rules and they're facing fines and sanctions.
The Senate did pass President Joe Biden's infrastructure bill. They manage to get at least 17 Republicans to support it. Wicker joined Hickenlooper and King in supporting the bill.
They join Sen. Karen Graham (R-SC) and a handful of House members testing positive for the coronavirus. Mind you that some of them are vaccinated.
The "breakthrough" infection among vaccinated people are rare. But it's growing. The top health officials warned Wednesday that vaccines are showing diminishing effectiveness over time, and recommended Americans get booster shots eight months after their last shot.
Of course, there's folks who are fully vaccinated but end up getting the coronavirus. As with vaccines, nothing is 100%. The vaccines are capable of preventing the coronavirus. At best, it's a 94% prevention rate which means 1 out of 500 could be infected even if they're vaccinated.
President Joe Biden had hopes that Americans would take this shit seriously. Unfortunately, Republicans so fucking eager to return to power will keep Americans fixated on the culture wars. Now vaccinations are part of this culture war.
But those fighting the culture war by not vaccinating, not wearing face mask in public, not following protocols, and deliberately ignoring federal and international rules when traveling are going to be the first casualties of the war.
With this pandemic mostly affecting states where Republican governors are, we may have to return to wearing facial protection and cutting back services to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
We came so far only to have a bunch of selfish idiots set it back. Just because they hate President Joe Biden.
The Republicans are so devoted to destroying Biden and the country for what....to regain power.

According to the CDC, there is still not enough information on antibodies for COVID-19 and whether they can prevent someone from getting reinfected. It still recommends that people with a positive antibody test follow recommendations for protecting themselves and others.
The coronavirus doesn't care about your age, race, gender, sexuality, nationality, religion, politics, economic or social standings. It doesn't care about anything. It's a living organism that causes mild symptoms that include: fever, sore throats, chills, respiratory issues, loss of taste or smell and other unknown symptoms. If you have a weak immune system or health issues, your risk increases.
Death does happen to at least 40% of those who are affected by COVID-19.
If you're not vaccinated, your chances of death increases to 48%.
Healthy people can die from this. Take this seriously. You only have one life!
