Mississippi Republican senator Thad Cochran leaves another potential pickup for Democrat. |
"I intend to fulfill my responsibilities and commitments to the people of Mississippi and the Senate through the completion of the 2018 appropriations cycle, after which I will formally retire from the U.S. Senate."
At least he, Sens. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Bob Corker (R-TN), Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and John McCain (R-AZ) can enjoy their government paid health insurance.
The old fart who managed to survive a vicious primary fight back in 2014 says he is out on April 1. That puts it squarely on Easter.
Now a special election is going to be held for the remaining term.
Cochran has been a supporter of Donald J. Trump and supported his tax law, the attempts at repealing the AffordableCare Act.
Cochran also faced a challenger who was crazy as shit.
Chris McDaniel, a far right former state representative is going to run for the seat.
Hopefully, the Democrats can line up a candidate capable of turning a Republican stronghold of Mississippi blue.
I have faith in the Democrats.
With Trump's dismal ratings and his ongoing self inflicted wounds, the chances of a Blue Wave could be happening.
Have patience.
Whoever wins the seat will serve the remainder of his term until election 2020.
Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) is running for reelection and has a potential to be usurped as well.
