Sonita Muluh, a standout Black powerlifter from Belgium, whose world-record squat attempt at the 2026 IPF World Women's Classic Open Powerlifting Championships was severely compromised when a competition spotter deliberately obstructed her lift.

During the 2026 IPF World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships, an openly discriminatory volunteer spotter/loader deliberately allowed Muluh struggle under heavy weight. The Lithuanian Powerlifting Federation promptly banned the individual, and the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) issued statements condemning the hateful conduct and reviewing their volunteer screening processes.

The IPF unequivocally condemns racism, discrimination, and hateful conduct in all its forms. Such behavior has no place within the IPF or the global powerlifting community. 

"We acknowledge and commend the Lithuanian Powerlifting Federation for its prompt and decisive response to this matter, including its immediate action to permanently ban the individual from participation within the federation." 

"In addition, the IPF will coordinate with the relevant IPF Commissions, the IPF Safeguarding Officer, and the IPF Championships Team to identify opportunities to strengthen the recruitment, screening, accreditation, and oversight of volunteers supporting IPF events."

The spotter was identified as Ernestas Kusinas and his ass is getting dragged.

Critics pointed out that Kusinas had visible "white pride" tattoos on his chest and had openly posted Nazi-associated imagery on his Facebook profile as early as 2023, raising questions about how he was permitted to spot international athletes. The federation has since pledged to implement far more rigorous background checks for event personnel.
