Joe Cunningham won in a heavily Republican district in South Carolina.
Representative-elect Joe Cunningham beat Republican Katie Arrington who survived a nearly fatal car wreck. Cunningham, a political novice was a Democrat who ended up winning a district Trump carried by 40 points. A district that was heavily redistricted to be in the Republicans favor.
"You can count on me to always stand up for what is right, even if that means standing up to my own party when they’re wrong," he says in introducing himself. "Politics has simply become a game of 'us versus them,' and I’m running because I’m tired of that game. In my life, I’ve learned that if you want to get things done, you have to work with one another, not against one another."
Cunningham won by amassing a huge lead in Charleston County and then hung on as Arrington took the vote in the district's other four counties, according to unofficial returns.
According to those returns, Cunningham collected 144,828 votes, or 50.62 percent, to Arrington's 140,792 votes, or 49.21 percent.
State lawmaker Katie Arrington was defeated in a shocking upset against Joe Cunningham.
A district was carried by Tim Scott, the current Republican senator and Mark Sanford, the twice disgraced lawmaker who left his wife for an Argentine broadcaster. He made up a lie saying he walked the Appalachian Trail.
Katie Arrington, a South Carolina state lawmaker usurped Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) after Donald J. Trump gave his endorsement to her.
Two weeks later. Arrington was seriously injured when her vehicle was hit by a drunk driver. Her campaign manager was badly injured as well.
She recovered but has to use a cane when walking.
Sanford had declined to endorse her campaign in the final weeks. She got hit over her support for off-shore drilling and flimsy record as a lawmaker. She was hoping voters would sympathize with her because she was an accident victim.
Mark Sanford dissed Katie Arrington.
There's a major feud now between Arrington and Sanford. In her concession speech, she blamed Sanford for his tepid response to her and lack of endorsement.
Sanford is considering a run in 2020 to retake the seat.
In the meantime, Joe Cunningham will get the ground running. He wants to keep healthcare, fix broken roads, waterways and take care of the middle class. He also said that he won't endorse a Nancy Pelosi speakership.
Welcome to the club. You will join Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Lucy McBath, Antonio Delgado, Ann Kirkpatrick, Xochitl Torres Small, Susan Wild, Conor Lamb, Jennifer Wexton, Michael San Nicholas, Lauren Underwood, Cindy Axne, Sharice Davids, Abbu Finkenauer. Ayanna Pressley, Elissa Slotkin, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Dean Phillips, Angie Craig, Veronica Escobar, Lizzie Fletcher, Madeleine Dean, and Kendra Horn.
Reminder, most Republicans will mention Nancy Pelosi or George Soros in their opening statements, debate retorts and policy proposals. It's another sexist and anti-Semitic attack on two people vilified by the right wing carnival barkers.
Democratic lawmaker Kyrsten Sinema might win the Arizona U.S. Senate seat.
Could the state of Arizona swing in favor of the Democrats?
It's not over.
Rep. Martha McSally (R-AZ) and Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) are locked in a tie and there's an automatic recount in progress. The U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Jeff Flake has been one of the most bitter.
Whoever wins this will become the first woman to represent Arizona as a U.S. Senator.
The Sun Belt is looking likely to swing in favor of Democrats.
McSally had a her lead shrink over the past 48 hours. The lead has shifted in favor of Sinema.
McSally who is a former U.S. Air Force Colonial and two term congresswoman. The lawmaker is hoping to carry the mantle of Donald J. Trump. McSally thought this would be easy. She was clearly favored to win this spot. However, Arizonans want a Maverick.
Sinema is an openly bisexual woman who vows to support Donald J. Trump when it comes to border security. Sinema puts on this act of being a middle of the road lawmaker. It was not helpful to progressive base who felt she betrayed the cause.
The lead for Sinema is 30,000 votes ahead of McSally.
Republican Martha McSally is casting doubt on the recount. She is losing and she wants to rile Republicans up into attacking poll watchers.
"Election Officials estimate about 195,000 of these are early ballots, provisional and out-of-precinct ballots that voters cast or dropped off on Election Day," according to a news release from the Maricopa County Recorder's Office. "Additionally, about 3,000 early ballots that the Elections Department received before Nov. 6 must be tabulated."
Arizona continues to count the ballots and more than 260,000 remain as of Saturday, AZCentral reported. McSally would have to win at least 150,000 of the 260,000 votes left to reclaim the lead and of those 260,000 votes left, at least 125,000 are from Maricopa County, where Phoenix is. That's 57.7 percent of the ballots left that McSally would have to win.
Here's the most recent debate. And also McSally bringing up George Soros. The Republicans are using anti-Semitic rhetoric whenever they bring up Soros' name in conversation.
Rep-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) slams Fox News.
I love how the network throws socialist around like it's a bad word. I love how these white folks have the audacity to attack a woman of color who shocked the world with a viable win in a relatively Democratic stronghold. I love how this member-elect told the world that she is just like everyone else. She wants to represent the people of the district that she was elected to. She urges others to realize that not all lawmakers come in rich.
Many Americans are struggling to eat or pay rent. I am one of those who works 50 hours a week. I am a "surprise" dad who has to travel to another city to see my son. I don't get the fancy clothes or shoes that you see on television. I make too much to qualify for food stamps, Medicaid, Pell grants and housing assistance.
Even at a minimum of $29,000 a year, the average family of four can only afford at least $1,500 in monthly expenses.
Most apartments in a metropolitan area begin at nearly $700 a month. The cost of living in Washington, DC is astronomical.
Rep-elect Alexandria Ocasio Cortez of New York is the youngest elected federal official in the United States. She replaces Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) as the young elected member of the House of Representatives.
Ocasio Cortez said that since the election, she never had a long term job during the campaign. She said she might have to find a hotel room while waiting for her congressional salary to kick in. She admits that she can't find an affordable housing in metro DC.
Fox News took those comments and started to discuss them on America's Newsroom.
Ed Henry made the remarks.
Soon, the lawmaker shot back and made a stinging rebuke. She said that Fox News mocks the working class. She said that millions of Americans struggle to eat while paying for the rent.
Thank you all for the overwhelming outpour of support! As I mentioned, we’ve been preparing and will be fine.
However, it’s been very revealing to see how gleefully Fox News hosts crack jokes about working-class people.
Mocking lower incomes is exactly how those who benefit from + promote wealth inequality the most keep everyday people silent about 1 of the worst threats to American society: that the rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer. https://t.co/aWaOzy7UJJ
40% of ALL Americans currently struggle to pay for one basic need like food or rent.
As much as @FoxNews likes to mock the working-class, the real scandal is that at the wealthiest point in our history, we are at one of our most unequal.
Former first lady Michelle Obama reveals some deep stuff in her memoir. The wife of former president Barack Obama has finally decided to open her diary.
Obama releases her memoir Becoming and it goes after Donald J. Trump for his reckless behavior during the 2012 and 2016 presidnetial elections.
Obama said that she would "never forgive" Trump for the whisper campaign he spread claiming that her husband's legitimacy. Trump was a full-scale "birther" and demanded Obama released his long form birth certificate.
We remember them years.
"What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family's safety at risk. And for this I'd never forgive him."
Trump and Republicans demonized her for the eight years as First Lady. The very same folks complain that progressives attack Melania Trump.
The rumors of her being a transexual were bring brought up by white extremists. Michelle Obama faced some of the harshest criticism from the folks over at Fox News. Sean "Softball" Hannity was one of the most primary agitators. For years, he would kindly remind his cult, that Obama said that America was a "downright mean" country. He and far-right kookspiracists were hoping they revealed an audio tape with her saying "Whitey" to describe white people.
Rush Limbaugh mocked her weight.
The right was constantly complaining about her various meals, her vacations and her motivations to encourage healthy eating.
The former first lady describes her miscarriage and why she and Barack had vitro fertilization for Malia and Sacha.
The book opens deep into a woman who wanted Americans to get healthy and play 60.
She always wanted children to "BE BEST."
Obama also dismissed talk about running for U.S. Senate and president. She rather stay an active role in community service.
Her friends will accompany her on tour. She has former White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, actresses Tracee Ellis Ross, Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Jessica Parker moderating some of her book tours.
In the memoir, Obama reflects on her life in the political spotlight.
The role of mother and First Lady of the United States came with a price.
Obama reflects as a girl from Chicago who met her future husband and struggled through college.
She also reflects on her husband's phenomenal campaign and the power of public service.
Thank you Michelle Obama for the years of public service. You were truly a role model for women everywhere.
Kentucky turd who refused marriage licenses to gay couples voted out.
Kentucky county clerk who refused to allow gay couples a marriage certificate was defeated in her reelection bid.
Kim Davis, the county clerk of Rowan County, married four times became a martyr to the Republicans and Christian extremists. It was Davis' first time facing re-election since her fight against same-sex marriage landed her briefly in jail in 2015. She had defied the Supreme Court's ruling that year in Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark decision that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, explaining that distributing marriage licenses to such couples went against her beliefs as a member of the Apostolic Church.
Her refusal quickly became a lightning rod of controversy, drawing support from social conservatives and anger from same-sex-marriage advocates. Held in contempt for declining to fulfill a key pillar of her duties as county clerk, Davis found herself thrown in jail for several days — and all the while, demonstrators across the political spectrum descended on the small county of some 23,000 people.
After the Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage is legal in the United States, the LGBTQ community celebrated a historical victory. The courts were told that all marriage certificates were legal.
Unfortunately for the Rowan County clerk, it's too much. So she started to denied marriages licenses to the first gay couple that showed up. Then she did it again and again. Then she said she will not recognize anyone getting married.
Soon a federal judge named David Bunning her to serve the nominations or face the consequences.
So in the federal trial Miller v. Davis, the lawsuit stated that issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples are to be met in timely fashion. She said that Davis must issue licenses immediately.
Davis warned her fellow clerks to face punishment if they complied on the federal order.
So Bunning placed Davis to federal time out for at least 4 1/2 days. She was released. She was told to abstain from issuing marriage licenses.
She registered as Republican and tried to run on a platform of respect for Christ.
Turns out even in Eastern Kentucky, the folks saw that Davis was dead weight.
She lost to Democrat Elwood Caudill Jr., 54 percent to 46 percent. This was a second round battle between the two but as rivals not same party.
With all 19 precincts reporting, preliminary results show Caudill earned 4,210 votes to Davis' 3,566.
Davis met Pope Francis and caused an uproar where it lead Carlo Mario Vigano being fried out the cannon. He failed to detail why Davis came to meet the pope. Francis was in the United States and met the controversial clerk without even knowing who she was.
Good riddance to a worthless piece of shit.
Here are some of the most odious people we kicked out the door last night:
Dean Heller
Scott Walker
Bruce Rauner
Kris Kobach
Dana Rohrabacher
Pete Sessions
Dave Brat
Claudia Tenney
Kim Davis
For god's sake: let yourself *savor* the fact that we fired all of these assholes.
Just went you thought it was over. Here comes another scandal out of Florida. The Democrats are calling out Republicans for not counting all the votes in counties that likely voted for Andrew Gillum.
There is going to be a recount in the Florida governor and U.S. senate race.
Andrew Gillum and Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) are protesting the election results and are saying that Republicans are deliberately trying to hide votes. The Republican governor/possible senate-elect Rick Scott and possible governor-elect Ron DeSantis are calling the recount a stunt.
But there's votes missing in three Democratic leaning counties and the Democrats are demanding all votes are counted.
Now Donald J. Trump and Republicans are calling it "voter fraud" and a "stolen election."
You mean they are just now finding votes in Florida and Georgia – but the Election was on Tuesday? Let’s blame the Russians and demand an immediate apology from President Putin!
As soon as Democrats sent their best Election stealing lawyer, Marc Elias, to Broward County they miraculously started finding Democrat votes. Don’t worry, Florida - I am sending much better lawyers to expose the FRAUD!
Rick Scott was up by 50,000+ votes on Election Day, now they “found” many votes and he is only up 15,000 votes. “The Broward Effect.” How come they never find Republican votes?
Mayor Gillum conceded on Election Day and now Broward County has put him “back into play.” Bill Nelson conceded Election - now he’s back in play!? This is an embarrassment to our Country and to Democracy!
In the 2016 Election I was winning by so much in Florida that Broward County, which was very late with vote tabulation and probably getting ready to do a “number,” couldn’t do it because not enough people live in Broward for them to falsify a victory!
Thank you @marcorubio for helping to expose the potential corruption going on with respect to Election Theft in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. The WORLD is now watching closely!
Thank you @marcorubio for helping to expose the potential corruption going on with respect to Election Theft in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. The WORLD is now watching closely!
The people of Florida deserve fairness and transparency. We must fight to ensure this election remains fair. Become a volunteer and help us maintain a fair recount. https://t.co/9hYCaQv0RC
Scott opened an investigation into matter. He did it through his senate campaign and not his state office. The Tampa Bay Times are calling Scott on that.
The Tampa Bay Times reported that according to a spokesperson from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Scott has not submitted a written request that would trigger such an investigation.
"We do not have an active investigation," FDLE spokesperson Gretl Plessinger told the newspaper.
On Thursday night, the governor accused Democrats in South Florida of trying to "steal" the election that will determine if he or incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson (R-FL) will head to the Senate next fall.
"No ragtime group of liberal activists or lawyers from DC will be allowed to steal this election from the voters in this great state," Scott said while announcing his voter fraud lawsuit against Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes.
Bring it home.
The election-stealing allegations were first publicized by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) who earlier on Thursday claimed the county should have already tallied up all its absentee ballots.
The junior senator said "liberal DC lawyers" were coming down to watch the ballot-counting in Broward — a sign, he suggested, that the county was attempting to commit voter fraud. In reality, lawyers who witness vote-counting measures usually do so to make sure poll workers are not throwing out or otherwise manipulating ballots.
Rubio also claimed Florida law requires counties to report all their ballots within 30 minutes after the polls close, but as a reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel newspaper noted, counties actually have up to four days after polls close to report unofficial returns.
There are voting being counted and of course, it shrinks the leads of Scott and DeSantis.
On Thursday afternoon shortly after 2, the unofficial count gave Republican nominee Ron DeSantis a 38,000-vote lead on Democrat Andrew Gillum. That appeared to be within the 0.5 percent margin that requires an automatic machine recount once the count is certified.
More than 8 million votes were cast in the contest to replace the term-limited Rick Scott.
It ain't over. Ron Gillum took back his concession. He vows to fight this all the way to court. Ron DeSantis and Rick Scott are scared. Their vote lead shrunk and it's possible that Gillum and Bill Nelson could win the recount.
DeSantis, embracing the mantle of governor-elect, expressed confidence that his lead will hold.
Gillum congratulated DeSantis Tuesday night on a hard-fought victory, but like Al Gore supporters 18 years ago, many of those who voted for him wondered why he conceded so early. Wednesday morning on social media they chatted among themselves about the narrow margin and the many uncounted ballots.
Thursday Gillum's spokeswoman said the campaign had acted with the best information available election night about the number of uncounted ballots.
What’s embarrassing to democracy is not counting every vote — and you, of course.
"Since that time, it has become clear there are many more uncounted ballots than was originally reported," said Johanna Cervone. "Mayor Gillum started his campaign for the people and we are committed to ensuring every single vote in Florida is counted."
Late Thursday afternoon Broward County still had not reported early voting or vote-by-mail numbers. Election officials in the Democratic stronghold expect their first unofficial results by 1pm Friday. So far, only a dozen or so counties had reported the results of provisional ballots.
In posts on Twitter and Facebook Wednesday night and Thursday, Gillum spoke of "seeing every vote counted," how his grandmother taught him to "keep myself in the fight” and vowed to see the process through."
The votes aren't stolen.
Recounts are part of the process. Why are Republicans upset that the contender wants a recount?
Is there something to hide?
Speak of that. Have you heard anything about the migrant caravan that Republicans hyped up the last two weeks before the Midterms?
The Republicans are the party of phony outrage. Democrats should fight this. No vote should be ignored and the gutter sniping from Republicans will put lives in danger.
Tamara Mowry Housley's niece Alania was one of the victims in the Thousand Oaks massacre.
Adam Housley left Fox News only a few months ago. He was fed up with the network's talent kissing Donald J. Trump's ass. He among with a handful of Fox News folks pissed that Sean "Softball" Hannity wasn't punished for his blatant on-air campaigning.
Now Adam should be angry that the party he and his wife Tamara Mowry- Housley supported in the 2018 Midterm refused to lift a finger on gun violence. Yeah, they're proud Republicans and conservative. I guess they've got their "come to Jesus" moment.
Alaina. My sweet, sweet Alaina. My heart breaks. I’m still in disbelief. It’s not fair how you were taken and how soon you were taken from us. I was blessed to know you ever since you… https://t.co/XKQctkyRgi
"Our hearts are broken....Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this matter. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time." - a statement from Adam and Tamara.
The Housleys support for Republicans contributed to the death of their niece. The Republicans and their refusal to do something led to their 18 year old niece Alaina Housley being killed.
The names were released. Besides Alaina Housley, there was Cody Coffman, 22, Justin Meek, 23, and Ventura County Sheriff Sgt. Ron Helus, 50.
Cody Coffman may have risked his life to save others.
There are eight other victims who weren't named yet and of course the shooter was named.
It seems like Republicans are not going to move the needle on gun violence. Sen-elect Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) already made it clear, that the Second Amendment isn't going to be touched.
The moron can't even bring herself to understand that gun violence affects everyone. Even in her state, they had a mass shooting at a Nashville Waffle House by a white extremist.
Republicans are in control of the Senate. It's hard to figure out how we can govern when the Democrats are in charge of the House and the Republicans are in charge of the Senate. Nothing will be done about gun violence.
Tamara Mowry-Housley and her husband Adam found out their niece was killed.
Even a hardline Republicans like Tamara Mowry-Housley felt the effects of inept leadership.
Alania attended Pepperdine University. She wanted to be a singer and had a future. At 18, her life was cut short. Never the experience of motherhood, marriage, a career in journalism or entertainment.
See the young man Cody Coffman's dad broke down in tears. He said that his son would fight the bullies. So I only assume that he was trying to be a "hero" and sacrificed his life to protect the hundreds of others who managed to escape the gunfire.
The terrorist is an incel who lived his mother. He was a former Marine with "disturbing" behavior.
Obviously, a white man who was rejected by society. He decided to take revenge on those who spurned him.
The terrorist opened fire on a crowd at Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, authorities said. It is believed that the terrorist killed himself after the shooting. His body was found in an office near the entrance of the bar.
About 150 to 200 people — including 16 students from Pepperdine University, along with others from California Lutheran University and California State University Channel Islands — were inside Borderline when witnesses said the terrorist tossed a smoke device into the crowd and then, amid the confusion, fired at least 30 shots.
Another white mass shooter. Yet, we'll pass laws to stop people of color.
The terrorist who killed 11 people including a Ventura County boy was identified by the junk food media. Another white male who possibly had issues from either being spurn by women, angered by politics or hatred of human kind.
No excuses for what he did. All that we have to know is that Congress, Donald J. Trump and the National Rifle Association will not do one damn thing about gun violence.
Trump, Mike Pence, Gov. Jerry Brown, Gov-Elect Gavin Newsom, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) offer the usual word vomit of sympathy. Here's what you're going to expect from politicians, entertainers, social media advocates and concern trolls.
Thoughts and prayers. My heart goes out to the victims. Our deepest sympathies.. We honor those killed.... The lowering of a state flag or the American flag. A moment of silence. Offering flowers, cards and balloons. A good guy with a gun could have stopped this. How's that gun control working for you? I blame...... (ex. Barack Obama, Donald Trump, NRA, Liberals, etc).
The same old tired formula to doing nothing when it comes to gun violence. Offer cheap platitudes and "feel good-ism" to a tragedy.
The terrorist wanted to inflict harm on many club goers.
The terrorist didn't care about the victims. He didn't care about politics, gender, race, nationality, economic standings, career, family life or upbringing. All he saw was targets and those targets were meet with rapid fire from a semi-automatic handgun.
The community of Thousand Oaks, California, a city of 134,000 residents is mourning.
The club called Borderline Bar and Grill will be shut down indefinitely. The club was hosting a teen/college night for people who wanted to mingle.
The fact that 11 young lives were taken so fast is beyond me. I mean how many of these firearms are active in the United States?
The terrorist easily obtained these firearms from somewhere.
The terrorist was possibly one of the many white men who couldn't find romance. This term incel is coming up in most of the recent mass shootings.
The typical mass shooter is the NICE GUY. The term is often regarded with incels. These individuals are members of an online subculture that defines themselves as romantically starved. They are having trouble trying to find reasonable women who will love them. Men who were hurt by women either through engagements or surprise births. Men who felt the world handed them nothing but shit.
Usually these folks harbor anger towards people of color stealing white women from them.
They are considered violent, misogynist and very extreme in political views. The typical Republican voter who supports Donald J. Trump and his antics.
A dozen of lives lost in another senseless tragedy.
Some of the victims attended nearby Pepperdine University and California Lutheran University. The victims were not named yet. But the county boy who was killed was identified as Ron Helus.
Ron Helus was a deputy who had many years on the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. He leaves behind a wife and kids.
The imbecile posted a social media message in regards to the massacre.
I have been fully briefed on the terrible shooting in California. Law Enforcement and First Responders, together with the FBI, are on scene. 13 people, at this time, have been reported dead. Likewise, the shooter is dead, along with the first police officer to enter the bar....
....Great bravery shown by police. California Highway Patrol was on scene within 3 minutes, with first officer to enter shot numerous times. That Sheriff’s Sergeant died in the hospital. God bless all of the victims and families of the victims. Thank you to Law Enforcement.
The victim count has increase to 30. There were 11 killed and about 10 in serious condition.
The handgun was designed to hold 10 rounds. He found ways online to modify it for lethal capacity and almost instant kill.
The terrorist is a former Marine. The terrorist went out like a punk allegedly putting one round in the head during the shootout with SWAT. The FBI, ATF, and California State Highway Patrol teamed up with Thousand Oaks Police and Ventura County Sheriff to do a sweep of the terrorist's home, social media along with allies who helped him plan and carry out this attack. Even though this is a lone attack, there gotta to be someone who knew when this was going to happen.
The terrorist has no criminal history other than minor traffic offenses.
There were notable signs of danger. The deputies arrived at the terrorist's home in Newbury Park on a report of a disturbance. He was acting irrationally and irate. The law called a mental health specialist who wanted his ass committed to mental ward. They cleared him after he told them he's just off the meds.
Geoff Dean, the Sheriff of Ventura County said this is the worst incident he's ever seen in 41 years.
Trust me, he hasn't seen the worse to come.
You voted for Republicans. You got more gun violence as a reward.
Republicans control the Senate, Democrats control the House of Representatives. There is going to be gridlock and partisan rancor. Trump will not work with either party to solve gun violence.
In one statement, he will say he'll do something. While on the campaign trial or on Fox News, he'll tell another lie about how it's other people's fault for the mess he's in. From day one, Trump, you're the fucking President of the United States.
No more blaming Barack Obama and others for the failures. You said you inherited a mess. Well now fool, clean it up.
Since, you're the nationalist now, you have a duty to inform your fellow nationalists that you're putting all efforts to seeing incidents like this stopped.
I don't even think Trump's got the balls or tan to do something about it.
Uh, oh!
Reality television star Tamara Mowry-Housley and her husband former Fox News host Adam Housley are concerned that their niece could be a victim of the massacre.
Tamara Mowry-Housley and Adam Housley are Republicans who believe the bullshit.
She and her twin sister Tia Mowry-Haridct are actors, reality television stars and models.
Tamara is the executive producer and host of The Real.
The suspect is caught in the mass shooting of a bar in Thousand Oaks, California. His motivations were inspired by? (Expect The Dumbest Answers Picked By Trolls)
GUN VIOLENCE IS THE NUMBER ONE THREAT IN THE UNITED STATES. FUCK YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS! IT WON'T HEAL THE WOUNDED AND IT CERTAINLY WON'T BRING BACK THE DEAD!
Lucy McBath flipped the Sixth. She is the mother of murder victim Jordan Davis. The Florida teen was murdered by a white man over hip-hop music. Lucy's stunning upset against Rep. Karen Handel (R-GA) helped the Democrats win the House of Representatives.
Take notes Jon Ossoff, if you want to be a Democrat that acts like a Republican, prepare for defeat.
The mother of slain teen Jordan Davis won her race against Rep. Karen Handel (R-GA).
Only 18 months ago, Handel won barely against Ossoff, a documentary filmmaker and activist. The district was once held by Tom Price, the disgraced Health and Human Services Secretary forced out by scandal. The seat was once held by that washed up potato, Newt Gingrich.
Lucy McBath, the mother of Florida teen Jordan Davis was victorious in her race for the 6th Congressional District of Georgia. The suburban Atlanta area often sways for Republicans. A seat that was in Republican control for over 30 years is now in the hands of a progressive.
McBath is part of the "Mothers of a Movement." She along with Sybrina Fulton (Trayvon Martin) and Leslie McSpadden (Michael Brown) wanted Congress to focus on police reform and the prosecution of individuals who shoot unarmed people of color.
McBath's surprise victory makes me feel confident in 2020.
She was motivated to run. She was a supporter of Moms Demand Action, a group started by the mothers of Sandy Hook, the most deadliest school shooting of the decade.
This win is just the beginning. We’ve sent a strong message to the entire country. Absolutely nothing - no politician & no special interest - is more powerful than a mother on a mission.
As a former cancer survivor, Lucy McBath had to fight a lot of battles. To see the man who kill her son over rap music was infuriating.
In 2012, Jordan Davis and his friends were in a Jacksonville gas station with music blaring. The suspect, Michael Dunn was upset that the music disturbed him and his girlfriend pumping gas.
Dunn ordered them to turn off the music. Davis smarted off to the suspect. After a brief exchange of words, Dunn pulled out his firearm and shot at the vehicle. He managed to shoot Jordan five times and injure his friends from shattered glass.
Dunn would retreat into his car and head to the hotel. He ordered a pizza and wings. It took three days to apprehend Dunn. The suspect claimed he was using the "Stand Your Ground" law.
The jury initially claimed that it was second degree murder and involuntary homicide. It ended in a mistrial.
Rep. Karen Handel (R-GA) concedes to newcomer Lucy McBath, the mother of Jordan Davis.
The second trial managed to serve Dunn on first degree murder. Dunn is now in the iron college for LIFE and no outside.
McBath's victory in the suburban Atlanta district, long a Republican stronghold, could be seen as a turning point for Democrats seeking to change the state from red to purple. McBath's district, much like the rest of Georgia, has grown increasingly diverse in recent years, with more people of color, and likely Democrats, moving in.
Handel conceded this morning.
After carefully reviewing all of the election results, it is clear that I came up a bit short on Tuesday. Congratulations to Representative-Elect Lucy McBath & I send her only good thoughts and much prayer for the journey that lies ahead for her.
McBath's race also may have reflected Americans' evolving views on gun control. She campaigned on a bold gun control platform in a state with gun-friendly laws in the heart of the Deep South, which has some of the nation’s highest rates of gun ownership.
We need more candidates who will stand up to the National Rifle Association, Donald J. Trump, Fox News and the right wing smear machine.
Fuck the thoughts and prayers. I won't heal the wounded or bring back the dead.
We need action and if we can get more Lucy McBaths out there, I am down for that.
She will join a handful of newbies to the House of Representatives. Alexandra Ocasio Cortez is the darling of the progressive movement. She endorsed many of these candidates. McBath is blessed to have her support.
Now onward to 2020. We must find a candidate willing to stop Trump.
Donald J. Trump has a 75% chance of winning reelection.
Lauren Underwood is Representative-elect from Illinois. She defeated a Republican who played racial politics.
More women of color will join the 116th United States Congress.
We welcome Lauren Underwood, the Representative-Elect from suburban Chicago. She beat out Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL) in a bitter race. The Democrats target him as one of the many incumbents who could face ouster.
Underwood is an African American women who is a registered nurse. After growing up in Naperville, Illinois, she received a degree in nursing from the University of Michigan and several Masters degrees from Johns Hopkins University. Underwood began her political career as a special assistant in 2014, was appointed as a Senior Advisor two years later, and was elected as a member of the United States House of Representatives in 2018.
In August 2017, Underwood announced her candidacy in the 2018 elections for the United States House of Representatives in Illinois's 14th congressional district.
Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL) is exiting.
Underwood's platform includes issues she summarizes as health care, jobs, and family, with focuses on mental health, infrastructure improvements, and paid family leave. She won the Democratic primary held on March 20, 2018, with 57% of the vote against six opponents.
The general election was held on November 6, 2018 against incumbent Hultgren; she received endorsements from former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden.
Underwood won the election with early estimates of 52% of the vote in a traditionally Republican district. Trump carried the district by 20 points.
Underwood like many other candidates of color was a target of racism. She charged that Hultgren used "racially coded language" while vying to hold on to his seat in the overwhelmingly white 14th Congressional District.
"My opponent says that I'm an outsider, which is his racially coded language that I don't belong and somehow I'm not trustworthy," she said in the video. "I've grown up in this community. This is the community that taught me how to be a black woman."
She will join Representative-elect Lucy McBath of Georgia, Antonio Delgado of New York, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez of New York, Katie Hill of California and Ilhan Omar of Minneosta.
