Republican candidate seriously injured in car accident. Katie Arrington won a primary against the infamous lawmaker Mark Sanford. |
This Republican running for Congress promised to rip up Obamacare. Yeah, after she uses its advantages. It seems like a definition of irony moment.
South Carolina Republican congressional candidate Katie Arrington was involved in a serious car accident near Charleston. She and her aide were traveling on U.S. 17 when a wrong way driver struck the vehicle they were riding in.
The driver of the vehicle died upon impact. The aide and Arrington were badly injured. They were en route to Hilton Head Island.
The state lawmaker ousted controversial Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) in bitterly fought primary may be on a slow path to recovery. Sanford was the infamous former governor who left his job to chase a hot Argentine reporter. He was on the Appalachian Trail.
He threw his support for her and she won.
Well she is recovering. Numerous people offered sympathy towards her.
"Katie’s family is extremely humbled and grateful for the outpouring of prayers and support, as they know the prayers have been an extremely important part of this healing," the statement read. "They respectfully ask for continued prayers, including that of support for the family of Helen White, prayers of thanksgiving for the medical staff treating Katie and Jackie Goff, and prayers for continued improvement for both Katie and Jackie."
Trump and Mike Pence went to social media to react.
My thoughts and prayers are with Representative Katie Arrington of South Carolina, including all of those involved in last nights car accident, and their families. https://t.co/rWYt2VBjxc— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 23, 2018
Landed in SC and spoke to Rob Arrington, husband of our great congressional candidate @karringtonsc. So many people are praying for Katie’s quick and full recovery. Today we remember all those affected in that accident.— Mike Pence (@mike_pence) June 23, 2018
I just spoke with Katie’s husband, Rob. We are shocked by the news of her accident and urge all South Carolinians to keep her in their prayers. She is a strong, determined woman. We need her, and she will pull through.— Henry McMaster (@henrymcmaster) June 23, 2018
Embattled governor Henry McMaster and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) went to the local hospital to visit her. Republican and Democratic leaders in South Carolina offered funding for her medical expenses.
Her opponent, Joe Cunningham offered sympathy and wished her well on her journey. He suspended campaign activities for the time being.
I don't offer no sympathy to this woman. Shit happens.
When you support rolling back safety regulations, continue to allow guns in the hands of terrorists, support of draconian laws and throwing support to hate, maybe it could be "God's plan" or the definition of irony.
