Fox is making a last minute settlement to Dominion before trial. |
It appears that Fox is desperate to settle with Dominion Voting Systems. The company sued the far right network for $1.6 billion for defamation.
The trial was expected to start on Monday but was pushed back until Tuesday.
It has some concern that Dominion will settle with Fox. If they settle, then Fox will continue to push radical claims without accountability.
Fox had to apologize to Delaware Supreme Court Judge Eric M. Davis after the network withheld evidence and also sparked a whisper campaign which led to death threats against him and Dominion.
The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that Fox, which has made attempts at a settlement before, was making a final push to avoid a weeks-long trial that could see its top hosts and leaders, including 92-year-old Rupert Murdoch, take the witness stand.
News that the trial was pushed back sparked speculation on Twitter that last-minute settlement talks are underway. Legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin noted: “These kind of delays often happen when civil cases are about to settle.”
Dominion focused on allegations made between November 2020 and January 2021 by hosts Maria Bartiromo, Tucker Carlson, Lou Dobbs, Sean "Softball" Hannity, and Jeanine Pirro. Guests who often appeared with these hosts included Washed Up 45 attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, both of whom have also been sued individufally by Dominion in federal court.
Davis ruled in a March 2023 summary judgment that none of the statements Fox made about Dominion were true and ordered the case to trial to determine if the network had acted with actual malice. Jury selection for the trial began on April 13, 2023, with several prominent Fox personalities and senior executives expected to testify at trial beginning April 17.
