50 Sh*t: Anyone He Can Troll!

Til death do us part.

Kat Williams, Faizon Love, Marlon Wayans, Clifford "T.I." Harris, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle-Harris, Ja Rule, Marquise Jackson, Jim Jones, Zohran Mamdani, Raymond Scott and others have said that it's getting old.

Yes, we are starting to agree.

Curtis Jackson, you're 50 years old, dawg. Retire that shit.

50 Cent is still doing the trolling, the misogynistic claps, the homophobic jabs, the transphobic attacks and the grievances about how politics affects his greed.

One could only imagine that for a rapper, media mogul and business executive, 50 would settle this shit down.

Nope.

He acts like he is untouchable in a society where folks are just waiting to drop a dime, or perhaps two quarters.

This is the point where being an elite is bad news. 50 is on top of the food chain when it comes to being an elite.

His free speech is funny but also sad. A pathetic attempt to stay relevant long after Get Rich or Die Tryin' and The Massacre.

A generation that heard of your songs, but doesn't rock with them as they are more into rappers who have more charisma. If you were born between 1998 and 2009, people would see 50 Cent as an old rapper.

Yeah, that's the Candy Shop.

Okay, so in the Instagram posting, 50 is dissing T.I. over allegations of snitching and just basically claiming who's on the top of the media mogul chain.

He decided to bring in Tameka "Tiny" Cottle-Harris, the rapper's wife. The diss was met with backlash.

T.I. who has his own podcast and media company stated he has lost respect for the media mogul.

T.I. kicked things off by calling out 50 for a Verzuz battle, but instead of stepping up, 50 took it personal—classic Fif. That didn’t sit right with their son, King Harris, who went off on 50 on social media in defense of his mom. Talk about family loyalty!

He hit the studio and dropped a sneak peek of what sounds like a diss track aimed straight at 50. In the snippet of the DJ Toomp-produced track, seemingly titled “War,” T.I. doesn’t hold back, making it clear he’s not here for the games.

Growing up listening to hip-hop from the 1990s to present, many of my generation know 50 Cent and his career.

50 drags T.I.'s wife into his childish feud.

50 got signed to Eminem's Shady Records in 2002. He appeared on the 8 Mile Soundtrack making his famous. He released his debut album in 2003 with Eminem and Dr. Dre executive producing the album. The debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin' sold 10 million copies and is possibly the biggest album of 50's career. He stayed on Shady and Aftermath Records until 2014. He still maintains a friendly relationship with Em and Dre.

D.L. Hughley is right about Black on Black distractions. While the elites are getting richer, they use Black entertainers to distract the public from the failures of President Donald J. Trump.

Many folks are getting tired of the elite hoarding the wealth. A lot people are skipping fast food for home meals. A lot of people are skipping vacations seeing them as too expensive.

Some feel their jobs are meaningless. No one is getting joy out of working more for less pay.

People are resorting to extremes to save money.

The status quo even applies to the hip-hop community. The wake up call will be coming to 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Lil Pump, 6ix9ine, Boosie BadAzz, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Vanilla Ice, Sherf G, Icewear Vezzo and Waka Flocka Flame.

Besides being over 40 years old, most of these rappers are on the decline. So why not embrace a person who loves his name dropped in rap? A man who is emboldenment of white privilege, entitlement, cultural decline, incompetent governance and outright pettiness.

50 visited U.S. Capitol in 2024 alongside civil rights attorney Ben Crump to meet with Republican and Democrat lawmakers. CBS News correspondent Nikole Killion asked him about the “significance of African American men” in the upcoming presidential election.

“I see them identifying with Trump,” he told Killion.

When asked why he believed that, 50 Cent said, “Because they got RICO charges.”

Black men gave President Donald J. Trump one of his largest backing. He pulled 35% of the Black male vote. When it comes to Black women he only pulled 5%. So if you do the math, Trump pulled 25% of the Black vote overall, the highest for a white president of a politicial party that opposes a lot of Black policies.

While we laugh at 50's endless trolling of celebrities, politicians and viral influencers, you start to notice that he is vile in his attacks on Black women, those in the LGBTQ community and immigrants.

And for a man who is two quarters, this is getting old.

They want you to risk your freedom or your life to protect their right to gas you up to commit unspeakable crimes against one another.

Look, I am getting older and less concerned with issues of the past. I've grown up to not worry about what other people do in their personal lives. Since I lost my good job, it's been a survival in the jungle. I work daily, go home, fix home meals and go to bed. I do have my own personal demons that could be exposed if I succeed to the levels of celebrity.

I am ready for it. Because it is a part of the process of being above the noise.

A Hit On Trump Adverted!

Another attempt on the Trumper's life.

Expect more of these incidents.

The U.S. Secret Service, Florida State Police, the FBI and ATG will likely be involved in this latest incident.

Despite all the chaos, bullshit and rancor, most politicians do not want President Donald J. Trump to die. They rather see him held accountable for his actions. If it involves serving time in federal time out or a removal from office, many of his opponents do not want him to see an untimely fate.

I want President Donald J. Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Elon Musk, Larry Ellison, Republicans, some Democrats, Israel, capitalism and the status quo to fail.

So far in the United States.

How many (up to 3 deaths or injuries) shootings?

1,788 homicides and 2,959 shootings.

How many mass shootings?

65 mass shootings.

How many school shootings?

6 school shootings.

How many religious institution shootings?

1 religious institutions.

How many civilians killed by police?

124 people killed by police.

How many police officers killed by civilians, animals or nature?

15 members of law enforcement.

How many firefighters and first responders died in incidents?

4 members of firefighters and first responders.

Okay, the Secret Service killed a man who was armed trying to infiltrate Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach.

An armed man drove into the secure perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, Florida, before being shot and killed early Sunday morning, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service.

Although Trump often spends weekends at his resort, he was at the White House when the breach occurred around 1:30 a.m.

The man had a gas can and a shotgun, authorities said. Investigators identified him as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin of North Carolina, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to discuss it publicly, and authorities said his family had recently reported him missing.

He’s believed to have purchased his shotgun while driving south, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said, and a box for the weapon was later discovered in the man’s vehicle.

Investigators have not identified a motive. However, Trump has faced threats to his life before, including two assassination attempts during the 2024 campaign.

The investigation is ongoing

The man entered the north gate of the property as another vehicle was exiting and was confronted by two Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.

“He was ordered to drop those two pieces of equipment that he had with him. At which time he put down the gas can, raised the shotgun to a shooting position,” Bradshaw said at a brief press conference. The two agents and the deputy “fired their weapons to neutralize the threat.”

Any white shooter is "a leftist" according to Republicans and MAGAland.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Department in North Carolina said a relative of Martin’s reported him missing early Sunday morning.

Investigators are working to compile a psychological profile. Asked whether the man was previously known to law enforcement, Bradshaw said “not right now.”

The FBI encouraged residents who live near Mar-a-Lago to check any security cameras they may have for footage that could help investigators.

In a post on X, FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau would be “dedicating all necessary resources” to the investigation.

Martin was described by family as quiet and averse to guns

On Sunday afternoon, vehicles blocked the entrance to a property listed in public records as an address for Martin at the end of a private road in Cameron, North Carolina.

Braeden Fields, Martin’s cousin, reacted with disbelief. He described Martin as quiet, afraid of guns and from a family of avid Trump supporters.

“He’s a good kid,” Fields, 19, said. He said they grew up together. “I wouldn’t believe he would do something like this. It’s mind-blowing,” Fields said.

He said Martin worked at a local golf course and would send money from each paycheck to charity.

“He wouldn’t even hurt an ant. He doesn’t even know how to use a gun,” Fields said.

He said his cousin didn’t discuss politics.

“We are big Trump supporters, all of us. Everybody,” Fields said, but his cousin was “real quiet, never really talked about anything.”

Of course, it has to do with the president slow walking the Epstein files. Many Trump supporters are turning on him because of his refusal to release the entire files.

He is not a leftist or any imaginary cause de jour.

Trump faced two assassination attempts during his last campaign

Sunday’s incursion at Mar-a-Lago took place a few miles from Trump’s West Palm Beach club where a man tried to assassinate him while he played golf during the 2024 campaign.

A Secret Service agent spotted that man, Ryan Routh, aiming a rifle through the shrubbery before Trump came into view. Officials said Routh aimed his rifle at the agent, who opened fire and caused Routh to drop his weapon.

Routh was found guilty last year and sentenced this month to life in prison.

Trump also survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. That gunman fired eight shots before being killed by a Secret Service counter sniper. One rally attendee was killed by the gunman.

White House brings in shutdown politics

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a post on X that “the United States Secret Service acted quickly and decisively to neutralize a crazy person, armed with a gun and a gas canister, who intruded President Trump’s home.”

Leavitt used her post to blame Democratic lawmakers in Congress for the partial government shutdown affecting the Homeland Security Department, which began Feb. 14 after Democrats demanded changes to the president’s deportation campaign.

The Secret Service is among the agencies where the vast majority of employees are continuing their work but missing a paycheck.

“Federal law enforcement are working 24/7 to keep our country safe and protect all Americans,” Leavitt said. “It’s shameful and reckless that Democrats have chosen to shut down their Department.”

The White House referred all questions to the Secret Service and FBI. Both Trump and his wife posted statements on social media after the incident, but they were unrelated to the shooting.

Numerous recent acts of politically motivated violence

In the past year, there was the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk; the assassination of the Democratic leader in the Minnesota state House and her husband and the shooting of another lawmaker and his wife; and an arson attack at the official residence of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.

Five days ago, a Georgia man armed with a shotgun was arrested as he sprinted toward the west side of the U.S. Capitol. Trump is scheduled to deliver his State of the Union address there on Tuesday night.

Are you getting tired of this?

The status quo politics of "can't do nothing" or "now is not the time."

On average there are two mass shootings a day now. It never stops.

Uh oh. Better see if the far right preparing to make this shooter a leftist.

I wonder if Charlie Kirk got something to say about it?

Nevermind.

The United States is the most violent country in the world. Israel and Russia follow behind respectfully. Israel, Russia and the United States are the most hated countries in the world.

The United States is downsizing in democracy.

What is wrong with white men, white women and white boys?

It's the guns stupid!

Things to keep in mind when the blame game comes, will the suspect be:
  • White
  • Black
  • Latino
  • Muslim
  • Arab
  • Non White National
  • Immigrant
  • A member of the LGBTQ community
  • A disgruntled employee
  • A former student
  • A current student
  • A gang member
  • A so called leftist
  • A person who has conservative views
  • A person with easy access to firearm
The person with easy access to firearms should be the only answer. Alas, the far right is hoping for this to be a person they can scapegoat as their next de jour of outrage. Anyone can get firearm in the United States. Even, people who are non U.S. citizens are allowed to obtain firearms.

The real issue is not just guns, it's white men, white women tears and white boys. They are losing their goddamn minds. Inspired by loneliness, politics, job loss, social media trends, endless perceptions of others, the lack of opportunities (besides joining the military) and the need to be ahead of everyone else is what drives these fools to commit endless chaos.

White privilege also santizes the white shooters. Already we are getting details of the mass shooters. Glaring profiles of these white mass shooters to paint them as unfortunate circumstances. Ignoring the fact, these terrorists had signs of potential danger but their families thought it was just noise.

That restraining order doesn't mean much to a deranged individual. It's a trigger!

I wish things could have turned out well! But unfortunately, a shooter never abides to a court order!

How can a piece of paper protect a victim when it's not reliant on stopping the perpetrator (from causing harm)?

Alleged suspect was considered a missing person.

The real issue is gun violence. Not comedians. Not activists. Not Black men. Not immigrants. Not Muslims. Not transgender Americans. Not video games. Not movies. Not rap music. Not the left.

A man made crisis that can be solved if these incompetent politicians and media agitators stop making excuses for the continued gun violence epidemic. Prayers are just words and speeches. Instead offering words, how about policies?

The United States is downsizing in democracy and freedom.

I just want to say that the Second Amendment is White, period.

A bullet does not care about color. We all bleed red and so many lives are lost to gun violence. Republicans offer no solutions other than "thoughts and prayers" with a touch of "lock em up."

Gun violence continues to be the number one threat in the United States.

I dismiss this ridiculous notion that criminals are the problem, not the guns. Firearms are often obtained through legal purchases.

Again, having more security, teachers being armed and offering safe rooms are not solving the problem. The problem is lawmakers not willing to stop gun violence.

According to the far rightWhite shooters are always mentally ill or lone wolves. The far right believes they should receive some sympathy for their crimes. Black shooters are unrepentant thugs and criminals who deserve lengthy time in the iron college or death. Gay and transgender shooters are active groomers who want to be pedophiles on children. Muslim shooters are terrorists who should be surveiled or deported. Hispanic and Asian shooters are illegal immigrants and they should be deported. According to the far right, almost all white [or non-white] mass shooters are registered Democrats [leftist or some progressive activist] because they have liked or done one thing common to the politics of the left. Of course, they often share or post disinformation by using the ridiculous "Sam Hyde" meme or make bogus social media platforms with the shooter's image as a way to denounce most mass shooters being white or associated with conservative causes. The far right says a white person should "protect" themselves from thugs, terrorists or protesters. They believe the use of firearms are "justified" if they are protesting or even instigating a conflict. The far right believes if a shooter is a police officer, an active military member, a veteran or a citizen who supports conservative causes, they are considered a "heroes" and use of firearms are justified. If the shooters are teens in urban communities, the far right automatically assume the gunmen are Black. Even if the evidence turns out that the shooter has alignment with conservative causes or Republicans, the far right dismisses it as a hoax or a plot to demonize the MAGA movement.

Not lowering the temperature. Not learning from Butler.

The Republicans usually amplify white victims. Anytime a person of color kills a white victim, it is often wall-to-wall coverage on Fox, Twitter and they force it into national news. They make the case to blame Black Lives Matter, Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Democrats, Rev. Al Sharpton and rap music for Black on whatever violence. Republican lawmakers who do not live in urban neighborhoods often troll social media to talk about gun violence or crime in Chicago, Baltimore, Milwaukee and New York City while not doing a damn thing to stop it. If a white person shoots a Black person, the shooter is given the benefit of doubt. White shooters are given glowing profiles about their perfect lives and how friends noticed something but refused to do something. When it comes to Black shooters, automatic vilification. They don't see mental illness. They see it as gang violence, allegedly fatherless homes, Democratic policies or the need for more firearms.

Trump gave us open season.

WHITE PRIVILEGE IS REAL! IT'S "SUIT AND TIE" WHITE SUPREMACY ON TELEVISION, RADIO, THE INTERNET AND AMERICAN POLICY!

FOR EVERY BAD COP, THERE WILL BE A DEAD COP!

IF THE UNITED STATES CONTINUES TO AID ISRAEL, THE WORLD WILL BOYCOTT THE U.S. AND ABANDON THE DOLLAR!

I DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET OR THE COP'S VERSION.

These murderers don't have mental illness. They are calculated and prepared. It happened to be a moment where they have the opportunity to take out lives.

There's no sickness in the head. Most mass shooters legally obtain their assault rifles without little background checks. They have likely no criminal history and they are willing to use the assault weapon in the only thing it's good for: Killing numerous lives.

Holding these lawmakers accountable is not just a pledge, but a promise. You need to learn who represents your community. Your local community member, your school board member, your mayor, your state representative, your state senator, your governor, your U.S. Representative, your U.S. Senator and the president need to be held accountable for their actions.

They want you to risk your freedom or your life to protect their right to gas you up to commit unspeakable crimes against one another.

We need to put pressure on Republicans and Democrats to do something to improve everyone's lives.

Keep pressure on them with Israel.

Israel must be held accountable for war crimes and the U.S. must end its aid.

Our taxpayer money should not help Israel any further.

Expect more gun violence.

Republicans continue to offer extremely unpopular ideas. They will find out the risk of supporters being turned off by their policies.

Biden, Harris and the Democratic Party failed at understanding what is more important to the country. Trump, Vance and the Republican Party have already failed at understanding.

Both parties support of Israel had made some Arab Americans, Muslim and young voters vote against them. They have cost Biden a second term and Harris a historical victory.

The call center to the White House and Congress should still be the same.

The call number to the White House and U.S. Capitol is now going to be used. This is the official White House numbers 202-456-1111 and 202-456-1414. Your calls are monitored by the U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Capitol Police.

Let them know that "thoughts and prayers," "hearts going to" and "good guys with guns" are no longer acceptable and you want legislation to curb gun violence. Let them know that we are tired of police officers using immunity when committing death of suspects in custody. You want no more qualified immunity for police officers who use deadly force when it's not justified. Let them know that deporting law abiding immigrants seeking refuge is inhumane. You want the U.S. to improve the immigration process. You want the U.S. lawmakers stop dehumanizing human beings. You want the U.S. to prove to the world its a beacon of freedom. You want our American military and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents stop harassing people (regardless of nationality) out of our cities, the Middle East and every fucking international conflict in the world. You want legislation to focus on lowering the cost of rent, lowering the cost of food, lowering the cost of hospital visits, improving healthcare and building relationships with other nations. Let them know that you tired of being lectured about oppresive regimes overseas when the very people running our state and federal government are doing the same in real time. Let them know that you will not tolerate a government shutdown which affects federal services for Americans in need or in support of services. Let them know that pulling out of the UN Human Rights Organization, World Health Organization and Paris Climate Accords will put the U.S. in danger when catastrophic event happen. Let them know that you are tired of private equity firms getting away with destroying small businesses and long established companies. Let them know that you are tired of your taxpayer money going to foreign nations like Israel and Ukraine. You are tired of hearing about "Israel having a right to..." and the bogus claims of being anti-semitic or in support of terrorism because you support the freedom of Palestinians. You are tired of the propaganda being forced on your media platforms.

We have bigger issues at home and our tax dollars should solve the housing crisis, lowering food prices, fixing roads, bridges, helping reinvest in struggling urban and rural communities. We have hospitals closing, big box retailers leaving communities and television programs dying. There are bigger issues in the country than Israel. You want an immediate ceasefire, a weapons embargo, sanctions and accountability for war crimes done by Israel. You want no more domestic or foreign influence in American elections. You also want to make sure future presidents and lawmakers avoid influence from lobbyists and special interest groups.

THERE IS NO GOD!

GOD IS NOT FIXING THIS!

FUCK YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS!

LET ME BE CLEAR, PRAYERS DO NOT STOP FUCKING BULLETS!

THIS IS A MAN-MADE ISSUE! WHY IS IT SO HARD TO STOP A MAN-MADE ISSUE LIKE GUN VIOLENCE?

STOP SAYING YOU'RE PRAYING TO PEOPLE AFFECTED BY GUN VIOLENCE. IT IS FUCKING PLATITUDES. DO SOMETHING ABOUT FUCKING GUN VIOLENCE YOU WORTHLESS LAWMAKERS. PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP, THE CHOICE TO CONTINUE THE STATUS QUO WILL KEEP YOU AND OTHERS AT RISK OF VIOLENCE. MAKE A CHOICE TO STOP THE CHAOS AND ACT LIKE A FUCKING 79 YEAR OLD MAN. DO SOMETHING TO HELP THE COUNTRY.

Rondale Moore Passed Away!

A career ending injury led to Rondale Moore committing suicide.

Over the weekend, a NFL star committed suicide. He was distraught over a career ending injury and it lead to his passing.

Rondale Moore, an NFL receiver who had season-ending training camp knee injuries in each of the last two years after a standout college career at Purdue and a promising start with the Arizona Cardinals, was found dead Saturday, authorities said. He was 25.

Police said Moore died of a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound. Moore was found dead in the garage of a property in his hometown of New Albany, police chief Todd Bailey said. The death remains under investigation.

Floyd County Coroner Matthew Tomlin also confirmed Moore’s death. He said an autopsy would be conducted on Sunday.

After being traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, Moore dislocated his right knee during training camp and never played for them. He signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2025, but he blew out his left knee while returning a punt in their first exhibition game and spent another full season on injured reserve. Moore was so distraught after immediately realizing the seriousness of that injury that he slammed his hand down on a cart so hard the sound was audible throughout the stadium.

SAMHSA’s National Helpline: 1-800-662-HELP (4357)

SAMHSA’s National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7, 365-day-a-year treatment referral and information service (in English and Spanish) for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders.

The Vikings said they had spoken with Moore’s family to offer condolences and support.

“I am devastated by the news of Rondale’s death. While Rondale had been a member of the Vikings for a short time, he was someone we came to know well and care about deeply,” coach Kevin O’Connell said in a statement distributed by the team. “He was a humble, soft-spoken, and respectful young man who was proud of his Indiana roots. As a player, he was disciplined, dedicated and resilient despite facing adversity multiple times as injuries sidelined him throughout his career. We are all heartbroken by the fact he won’t continue to live out his NFL dream and we won’t all have a chance to watch him flourish.”

In a statement, the Cardinals said they were “devastated and heartbroken.”

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who loved him and had the privilege of knowing such a special person,” the team said in a social media post.

Moore grew up in New Albany, just across the Indiana border from Louisville, Kentucky, and was a first team All-American as a freshman at Purdue in 2018.

“Rondale Moore was a complete joy to coach. The ultimate competitor who wouldn’t back down from any challenge. Rondale had a work ethic unmatched by anyone. A great teammate that would come through in any situation. We all loved Rondale; we loved his smile and his competitive edge that always wanted to please everyone he came in contact,” Louisville coach Jeff Brohm said on social media. Brohm was the coach at Purdue when Moore played there.

Drafted in the second round by the Cardinals in 2021, Moore had 1,201 receiving yards and three touchdowns plus 249 rushing yards and one score over three seasons. He served as their primary returner for kickoffs and punts as a rookie before injuries pushed him away from that role.

“Can’t even begin to fathom or process this,” former Cardinals teammate J.J. Watt said on social media. “There’s just no way. Way too soon. Way too special. So much left to give. Rest in peace Rondale.”

Willie Colón Passed Away!

Willie Colón has

The urban Latin music industry lost an iconic figure. He was a legend in his name.

Unfortunately, his politics leaned towards MAGA.

Willie Colón, the Grammy-nominated architect of urban salsa music and social activist, died Saturday. He was 75.

Over his decades-long career, the trombonist, composer, arranger and singer produced more than 40 albums that sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. He collaborated with a wide range of artists, including the Fania All Stars, David Byrne and Celia Cruz.

His celebrated collaboration with Rubén Blades, “Siembra,” became one of the bestselling salsa albums of all time, and the pair were known for addressing social issues through the genre.

Colón’s family and manager confirmed his death through social media posts.

“Willie didn’t just change salsa; he expanded it, politicized it, clothed it in urban chronicles, and took it to stages where it hadn’t been heard before,” manager Pietro Carlos wrote. “His trombone was the voice of the people, an echo of the Caribbean in New York, a bridge between two cultures.”

Colón, who was nominated for 10 Grammys and one Latin Grammy, made famous songs such as “El gran varón,” “Sin poderte hablar,” “Casanova,” “Amor verdad” and “Oh, qué será.”

Blades said on the social platform X that he confirmed “what I was reluctant to believe” and offered his condolences to Colón’s family.

The path to the trombone — and fame

Born in New York’s Bronx borough, Colón was raised by his grandmother and aunt, who from a young age nurtured him with traditional Puerto Rican music and the typical rhythms of the Latin American repertoire, including Cuban son and tango.

At age 11 he ventured into the world of music, first with flute, then bugle, trumpet and finally trombone, with which he stood out in the then-nascent genre of salsa.

His interest in trombone arose after hearing Barry Rogers playing it on “Dolores,” Mon Rivera’s song with Joe Cotto.

“It sounded like an elephant, a lion ... an animal. Something so different that, as soon as I heard it, I said to myself: ‘I want to play that instrument,’” he recalled in an interview published in the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo in 2011.

At 17 he joined the group of artists that formed the famous record label Fania Records, led and created by Jerry Masucci and Johnny Pacheco. Fania was largely responsible for the new sound that was produced in the Latin world of New York and would later be called “salsa.”

Colón’s main characteristic as a musician was the fusion of rhythms, as he harmonized jazz, rock, funk, soul and R&B with the old Latin school of Cuban son, cha-cha-cha, mambo and guaracha, adding the nostalgia of the traditional Puerto Rican sound that encompasses jíbara, bomba and plena music.

In 2004 the Latin Recording Academy awarded Colón a special Grammy for his career and contributions to music.

The music lives on.

Community leader and activist

As a community leader, Colón fought for civil rights, mostly in the United States. He was part of the Hispanic Arts Association, the Latino Commission on AIDS, the Arthur Schomburg Coalition for a Better New York and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, among others.

In 1991 he was honored with the Chubb fellowship from Yale University, a public service recognition also awarded to the likes of John F. Kennedy, Moshe Dayan, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Ronald Reagan, among others.

In the political arena, he served as special assistant to David Dinkins, New York’s first Black mayor, and was later appointed special assistant and adviser to Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Colón had little luck running for public office himself, however. He failed in a challenge to then-U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel in the 1994 Democratic primary, and in 2001 came in third in the Democratic primary for New York’s public advocate.

He backed Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2008, but he told the Observer that he voted for Donald J. Trump in 2016.

Colón had public clashes with artists and politicians. His friendship with Blades ruptured after Colón sued for breach of contract over the 2003 concert “Siembra ... 25 years later,” held in Puerto Rico. He also sparked a controversy when he called the then-president of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, “rotten” on a social network.

Colón acted in films such as “Vigilante,” “The Last Fight” and “It Could Happen to You,” and on TV in “Miami Vice” and “Demasiado Corazón.” More recently he appeared in Bad Bunny’s music video for “NuevaYol.”

He is survived by his wife and four sons.
