Rep. Virginia Foxx will be out for a few weeks. The western North Carolina lawmaker best known for her insufferable antics towards people of color took a fall on a set of marble stairs at the U.S. Capitol.
The lawmaker was bleeding from this incident.
Foxx is the most recent elderly lawmaker to have hurt herself while on the job. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, was admitted to a hospital after sustaining a hip injury in Luxembourg. She required surgery and was seen without her signature stilettos when the House of Representatives reconvened Friday.
Just a few days before Pelosi's accident, former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, 82, fell and sprained his wrist after a Senate Republican lunch on Capitol Hill.
"Rep. Foxx slipped while walking down the marble staircase outside the House chamber after walking up to talk to her family in the gallery. After being helped to her feet, and looked over by medical personnel, she proceeded on her own to the Attending Physician's office to get treated for a few individual cuts," Ives said. "Everything seems to be okay."
Foxx, along with the other members of the House of Representatives, were on the Hill on Friday for the first day of the 119th Congress. The House reelected Speaker Mike Johnson for a second term. Foxx was one of the members chosen to tally the votes.
Foxx has represented North Carolina's fifth congressional district since 2005. She served as secretary of the House Republican Conference from 2013 to 2017. She served as the House Committee on Education and Labor chair from 2017 to 2019 and again since 2023.
During her time in office, Foxx was one of the 11 members of Congress to vote against the $51 billion aid package to victims of Hurricane Katrina. She also introduced the Preserving Employee Wellness Programs Act in 2017.
She later voted against both articles of impeachment in 2019 for former President Donald Trump, with her also being one of the 147 Republican lawmakers who objected to the certification of electoral votes from the 2020 presidential election on January 6, 2021.
Foxx is an opponent of the Affordable Care Act, saying that "we have more to fear from the potential of the Affordable Health Care for America Act passing than we do from any terrorist right now in any country." In 2022, Foxx voted against the Respect for Marriage Act to codify same-sex and interracial marriage rights federally.

The suspect who drove a Tesla Cybertruck to Las Vegas and detonated it in front of the Trump Tower International Hotel was identified.

The contents of a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the main entrance of the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas in Paradise, Nevada, United States. Seven bystanders were injured, and the vehicle's sole occupant died from a gunshot wound to the head immediately prior to the explosion. Authorities found that the truck contained firework mortars and gas canisters. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
According to senior law enforcement sources, 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger was the driver and had several Colorado Springs addresses associated to him, KOAA reports.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is at a townhouse complex, the Colorado Springs Police Department told KOAA.
The perpetrator, in the driver's seat of the vehicle, killed himself with a gunshot wound to the head before the explosion, his handgun being found at his feet. He was identified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as Livelsberger (July 22, 1987 – January 1, 2025) from Colorado Springs, Colorado, an active-duty United States Army Special Forces soldier since January 2006 who was on approved leave at the time of the explosion.
Suspect has ties to Ohio, Colorado and the New Orleans man who intentionally hit people during a New Year's Day celebration.
Livelsberger was born and raised in Bucyrus, Ohio, and was a student at Bucyrus High School until 2005. He served in the United States Army for 19 years and was on active duty in the United States Army Special Forces at the time of his death. He had deployed to several countries, including Afghanistan, Ukraine, the Republic of the Congo, Tajikistan, and Georgia, and received several commendations for his service. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, including one with a valor device for courage under fire, a Combat Infantryman Badge and an Army Commendation Medal with valor. He graduated summa cum laude from Norwich University with a degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis.
Livelsberger had ties to several other Ohio towns, including Ontario, Westerville, and Cuyahoga Falls. He was last posted in Germany but was on leave in Colorado; according to his wife, he had disappeared for several days before his death. Multiple addresses in the Colorado Springs area were associated with Livelsberger's name.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation began investigating the explosion the same day. The incident is being investigated as a possible terrorist attack. President Joe Biden was briefed on the event. Investigators also explored any possible connection with the New Orleans truck attack that occurred hours earlier and in which the same car-sharing application was used. The FBI later reported that there was no definitive link between the two attacks. Tesla had independently investigated the incident.
Livelsberger's uncle told The Independent that he thought the Cybertruck had exploded due to a mechanical fault, and was therefore surprised when contacted and informed of his nephew's involvement. He said his nephew served in the Special Forces because he was very patriotic toward his country, and that Livelsberger was a talented "supersoldier" who was skilled with explosives and could have used better explosives than "propane tanks and camping fuel".

Did you know in 2024 a white man intentionally set Black churches on fire in Rhode Island?

A Rhode Island man has admitted to using gasoline to set several fires around the exterior of a predominantly Black church earlier this year, according to a federal plea agreement.
Prosecutors said Kevin Colantonio set several fires around the exterior of the Shiloh Gospel Temple early Feb. 11 in North Providence after purchasing a lighter and gasoline.
The building was vacant at the time and the fires were quickly extinguished by members of the North Providence Police and Fire departments, investigators said. The fires caused property damage.
A lawyer representing Colantonio declined to comment.

Without the quick action of first responders who arrived at the church at about 12:12 a.m. following reports of an individual trying to set fires, the damage to the house of worship would have been catastrophic, investigators said at the time.
Zachary Cunha, U.S. Attorney for the District of Rhode Island, said at the time of Colantonio’s arrest that a search of his home turned up notebooks and writings that included phrases like “burn churches down to the ground,” “hunt them down,” and “gun everyone down who isn’t white.”
The plea agreement, which was filed in federal court last week, states that Colantonio intentionally targeted the church because of the “actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, and/or ethnicity of the congregants.”
Most of the Pentecostal congregation, which has been established for about 35 years, is Black and African American, according to investigators.
No injuries were reported.
Colantonio faces four counts: obstruction of the free exercise of religious beliefs; malicious damage by means of fire; and two counts of assault on a federal officer.
If served consecutively, Colantonio faces 56 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years, a fine of $1 million and three years of supervised release.
A change of plea hearing is scheduled for Jan. 7.
The suspect is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

But an assistant FBI agent in charge declared that it was “not a terrorist event.” The news conference ended before authorities could reconcile the two characterizations.
Alethea Duncan, an assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s New Orleans field office, said officials were investigating the discovery of at least one suspected improvised explosive device at the scene.

“He was hell-bent on creating the carnage and the damage that he did,” Kirkpatrick said. “It was very intentional behavior. This man was trying to run over as many people as he could.”

Two police officers who were shot after the driver emerged from the truck are in stable condition, she said.

The FBI identified the suspect as Shamsud-Din Jabbar (October 26, 1982 – January 1, 2025), a 42-year-old Muslim American citizen born and raised in Texas who lived in a Houston neighborhood in northern Harris County at the time of the attack, and was a former resident of Beaumont.
He served the US Army for 10 years as a human resources specialist and an information technology specialist and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2009, rising to the rank of staff sergeant. He was honorably discharged. His past criminal history included a 2002 arrest for misdemeanor theft and a 2005 arrest for driving with an invalid license. Jabbar was twice divorced, resulting in financial problems. He had two daughters, aged 20 and 15 at the time of the attack. A brother of Jabbar said that he converted to Islam at a young age. A friend of him said he noticed that he had "gotten really passionate" about his faith when they reconnected on Facebook around 2017. The husband of one of his ex-wives said that Jabbar had been acting erratically in the months before the attack.

According to a law enforcement official, the truck was rented via the Turo app and appeared to have a load of fireworks. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
A Turo spokesperson did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Wednesday afternoon on X that “we have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion.”
“The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now,” Musk said in an earlier post on the platform after attending a New Year’s Eve party at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. “We’ve never seen anything like this.”
Law enforcement officials have not ruled out terrorism as a possible motive, a person familiar with the matter said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss details of the investigation.
“I know you have a lot of questions,” Jeremy Schwartz, acting special agent in charge for the FBI’s Las Vegas office, told reporters. “We don’t have a lot of answers.”
President Joe Biden was briefed on the explosion. The truck explosion came hours after a driver rammed a truck into a crowd in New Orleans’ famed French Quarter early on New Year’s Day, killing at least 15 people before being shot to death by police. That crash was being investigated as a terrorist attack and police believe the driver was not acting alone.
In Las Vegas, witness Ana Bruce, visiting from Brazil, said she heard three explosions.
“The first one where we saw the fire, the second one, I guess, was the battery or something like that, and the third was the big one that smoked the entire area and was the moment when everyone was told to evacuate and stay away,” Bruce said.
Her travel companion, Alcides Antunes, showed video he took of flames lapping the sides of the silver-colored vehicle.
The 64-story hotel is just off the Las Vegas Strip and across the street from the Fashion Show Las Vegas shopping mall.
Eric Trump, a son of the president-elect and executive vice president of the Trump Organization, posted about the fire on the social media platform X. He praised the fire department and local law enforcement “for their swift response and professionalism.”

President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, President-elect Donald J. Trump, Vice President-elect JD Vance, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and the active Louisiana U.S. House members and incoming members were notified of a vehicle attack in New Orleans.
The vehicle attack happened a week after another one in Germany.
The suspect was a far right Suadi-German who was anti-Islam and staunch supporter of the apartheid ethnostate of Israel. The junk food media was quick to label this individual a terrorist because he was brown. But as soon as they found out he was not a Muslim, it became just another local story in Germany.
The far right is quick to jump into conspiracy theories before the FBI and New Orleans Police and Louisiana State Police can identify the suspect and causes.

The suspect in the New Orleans truck crash that killed 10 people and injured 30 revelers in New Orleans on New Year’s Day was killed after a firefight with police, law enforcement officials told the AP.
The officials were not authorized to discuss details of the investigation publicly and spoke to AP on condition of anonymity.
The suspect rammed a vehicle at high speed into a crowd of pedestrians in New Orleans’ bustling French Quarter district at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday along Bourbon Street, known worldwide as one of the largest destinations for New Year’s Eve parties, and with crowds in the city ballooning in anticipation for the Sugar Bowl college football playoff game at the nearby Superdome later in the day.
At a news conference, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell described the killings as a “terrorist attack” and the city’s police chief said the act was clearly intentional. But an assistant FBI agent in charge declared that it was “not a terrorist event.” The news conference ended before authorities could reconcile the two characterizations.
Alethea Duncan, an assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s New Orleans field office, said officials were investigating the discovery of at least one suspected improvised explosive device at the scene.
Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick said police officers would work to ensure safety at the Sugar Bowl, indicating that the game would go on as scheduled.
“He was hell-bent on creating the carnage and the damage that he did,” Kirkpatrick said. “It was very intentional behavior. This man was trying to run over as many people as he could.”
Two police officers who were shot after the driver emerged from the truck are in stable condition, she said.
Officials did not immediately provide an update on the status of the driver, whether there was an ongoing threat to the public or offer a suspected motive in the fatal incident.
NOLA Ready, the city’s emergency preparedness department, said the injured had been taken to five local hospitals.
The White House said Biden has been briefed. Attorney General Merrick Garland was also briefed on the attack, the Justice Department said.

Cleveland police say officers were called out to investigate a person shot around 4 a.m. Sunday on Broadway Avenue in the Broadway-Slavic Village neighborhood.
They arrived to find Banks shot multiple times inside the apartment at 5115 The Rising.
Cleveland EMS pronounced him dead on the scene.
There’s been no word on arrests at this time.
A lot of theories are circling the internet and police tell 19 News they’re looking into each one of them, but they can’t confirm anything at this time.
“The community is obviously in tune to it and safety is everyone’s responsibility,” said Cleveland Police Sgt. Wilfredo Diaz. “So we ask that the community come forward if you have any information”.
19 News spoke with community journalist Jaylyn King who says he’s interviewed Banks multiple times about his music career.
“Normally Cleveland has a set sound that’s really repetitive,’ said King. “He (Banks) was one that stood out and was very different than other artists”.
King told 19 News people have been contacting him with possible leads.
“The people really believe because of his fame and his name that it was a targeted attack,” said King. “Because he is flashy on social media and he is an artist”.
King has been encouraging people to reach out to police with their tips.
“This is big because he touched and influenced so many people,” said King “Even outside of music”.
The murder remains under investigation by Cleveland police.
“We want justice, and he deserves justice,” said King. “This was more than a rapper, this is a human being,”.
A bullet doesn't care about color. We all bleed red and so many lives are lost to gun violence and Republicans offer no solutions other than "thoughts and prayers" with a touch of "lock em up."
An active shooter doesn't care about the politics, race, gender, sexuality, nationality, religion, your finances, your family, your plans that day, your successes, your failures, and most importantly, your life.
You're not safe in the school, the concert, the hospital, the church, the casino, the bus station, the subway, the light rail train, the buses, the malls, the local big box store, the political rally, the protest rally, the women's center for reproductive surgeries, the mosque, the synagogue, the state buildings, the workplace, the gas station, the family picnic, the food truck rally, the funerals, the birthday parties, the graduations, the wedding, the televised events, the sporting events and many more events that have some terrorist with a firearm. Domestic violence, suicide, racism, culture war inspired, politically motivated and international operative inspired are types of gun violence.
Gun violence is the number one threat in the United States.
I dismiss this ridiculous notion that criminals are the problem, not the guns. Firearms are often obtained through legal purchases.
Again, having more security, teachers being armed and offering safe rooms are not solving the problem. The problem is legislators not willing to stop gun violence.
According to the far right : White shooters are mentally ill. Black shooters are unrepentant thugs and criminals. Gay shooters are active groomers. Muslim shooters are terrorists. Hispanic and Asian shooters are illegal immigrants. According to the far right, almost all white [or non-white] mass shooters are registered Democrats [or some progressive activist] because they have liked or done one thing common to the left. Of course, they often share or post disinformation by using the "Sam Hyde" meme or make bogus social media platforms with the shooter's image as a way to denounce most mass shooters being white or associated with conservative causes. The far right says a white person should "protect" themselves from thugs, terrorists or protesters. They believe the use of firearms are "justified" if they are protesting or even instigating a conflict. The far right believes if a shooter is a police officer, an active military member, a veteran or a citizen who supports conservative causes, they are considered a "heroes" and use of firearms are justified. If the shooters are teens in urban communities, the far right automatically assumes the gunmen are Black.
The Republicans usually amplify white victims. Anytime a person of color kills a white victim, it is often wall-to-wall coverage on Fox, Twitter and they force it into national news. They make the case to blame Black Lives Matter, Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Democrats, Rev. Al Sharpton and rap music for Black on whatever violence. Republican legislators who do not live in urban neighborhoods often troll social media to talk about gun violence or crime in Chicago, Baltimore, Milwaukee and New York City while not doing a damn thing to stop it. If a white person shoots a Black person, the shooter is given the benefit of doubt. White shooters are given glowing profiles about their perfect lives and how friends noticed something but refused to do something. When it comes to Black shooters, automatic vilification. They don't see mental illness. They see it as gang violence, allegedly fatherless homes, Democratic policies or the need for more firearms.

Let them know that you are tired of your taxpayer money going to foreign nations like Israel. You are tired of hearing about "Israel having a right to..." and the bogus claims of being anti-Semitic or in support of terrorism.
We have bigger issues at home and our tax dollars should solve the housing crisis, lowering food prices, fixing roads, bridges, helping reinvest in struggling urban and rural communities. We have hospitals closing, big box retailers leaving communities and television programs dying. There are bigger issues in the country than Israel. You want an immediate ceasefire and accountability for war crimes done by Israel. You want no more foreign influence in American elections. You also want to make sure future presidents and legislators avoid influence from lobbyists.
