Adam West (left) passed away. |
Actor Adam West who was best known for playing the 1960s version of Batman has passed away.
The actor passed away after a battle with leukemia and was surrounded by his wife Marcelle, six children and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
West also played a fictional version of himself on Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy. He portrayed the mayor of Qauhog. That was his longest serving duty as a fictionalized politician.
West and Burt Ward made Batman a success for its three seasons. The news is starting to trend on social media. His family and agent released a public statement.
"Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans' lives. He was and always be our hero."
DC Comics, Warner Bros. Entertainment and many entertainers are pouring sympathy to his family.
Born William West Anderson, he grew up in the city of Walla Walla, Washington.
His acting career began in the movie Geronimo and The Outlaws is Coming with The Three Stooges.
His biggest successes were his role as Bruce Wayne, the alter-ego of crime fighting superhero Batman.
As a voice actor, he played a role in Batman: The Animated Series as The Gray Ghost, a hero a young Bruce Wayne modeled his crime fighting persona after.
On Family Guy, West had done numerous roles as the character Adam West. He was a charming person in public and private life.
As an entertainer, West was always a favorite of my childhood. Growing up an 80s baby, my favorite hero was Batman. A reclusive good guy who stopped criminal activity in the city of Gotham.
He will sorely be missed.
Hopefully the Bat Signal will shine in New York tonight honoring a great entertainer.
