I'm Trying To Eat My Lunch! Why You Call The Law On Me?

Can't enjoy eating at a college dining hall without the police called. Oumou Kanoute was stopped by the cops after she took a break in a dining hall at Smith College.

A woman is enjoying a lunch at Smith College in Massachusetts. A person calls the law on her.

I tell you what. Aren't you getting tired of white people calling the law on people of color?

Well this happens quite frequently and this is an example of Donald J. Trump's Amerikkka.

Oumou Kanoute is enjoying her lunch in a dining hall when a cop came into the facility. The cop asked her what she was doing inside the facility. An employee claimed that a suspicious Black male was in the facility and the cops were notified.

Kanoute was doing summer class and internship and recorded this encounter.

CBS News reports that the employee who called police on a black Smith College student who was eating lunch in a common room on the western Massachusetts campus Tuesday has been placed on leave, school officials say. In a transcript of the call released by school officials Friday, the unidentified employee tells campus police dispatchers that the student seemed "out of place."

In a statement Friday, the college announced they have retained an outside law firm to "conduct a thorough, external investigation." The employee, who hasn't been identified, has been placed on leave pending the result, the school said.

The student, rising sophomore Oumou Kanoute, told CBS Boston she works at a summer program teaching chemistry to high school students for Smith's STEM program and was reading in the dining hall of the Tyler House dorm Tuesday.

"Next thing you know, I see the cop walk in with a Smith employee whom I've never seen before and the man said, 'We were wondering why you're here?"' Kanoute said.

Kanoute tells the officer she works on campus and was eating lunch and relaxing.

"Oh you're just taking a break? You're with one of the summer programs?" the officer responds.

Campus police found "nothing suspicious" about Kanoute's presence, Amy Hunter, the school's interim director of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity, said in a statement. A police report wasn't filed because the officer determined the report to be unfounded, according to the school.

In the transcript of the police call, the employee who made the report tells a dispatcher, "I was just walking through here in the front foyer of [redacted] and we have a person sitting there laying down in the living room area over here. I didn't approach her or anything but he seems to be out of place … umm … I don't see anybody in the building at this point and I don't know what he's doing in there, just laying on the couch."

The dispatcher asks for the caller's last name and says they will send someone to check it out.

"Alright. I'll wait over here," the caller says.

According to the transcript, the responding officer calls back dispatch to report "all clear."

"That was a student relaxing in the living room," the officer tells the dispatcher. "They had lunch here. I guess and they decided to stay for a while."

"No student of color should have to explain why they belong at prestigious white institutions," she wrote. "I worked my hardest to get into Smith, and I deserve to feel safe on my campus."

Kanoute said in the post that she was reading, not making noise or bothering anyone, and added: "All I did was be black."

While she spoke calmly to the officer in the video, she said in the post she had a "complete meltdown" after the incident.

"It just still upsets me to just talk about it because I don't even feel safe on my own campus and I'm away from home," Kanoute told CBS Boston through tears. "I'm the first in my family to go to college. I'm doing this not only for me but for my family, for my ancestors."

In a statement posted online, Hunter said the university "does not tolerate race- or gender-based discrimination" and that such behavior "can contribute to a climate of fear, hostility and exclusion that has no place in our community."

Smith president Kathleen McCartney issued a public apology to Kanoute and assured her "she belongs in all Smith spaces."

"This painful incident reminds us of the ongoing legacy of racism and bias in which people of color are targeted while simply going about the business of their daily lives," McCartney's statement read. "Building an inclusive, diverse and sustainable community is urgent and ongoing work."

McCartney said Smith staff members will be required to participate in mandatory anti-bias training beginning in the fall and the school would host a series of workshops for faculty and staff focused on "topics of identity, inclusion, bias-response and bias-prevention." She said the school's Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity would work with campus police to strengthen protocols by which they assess and respond for calls for assistance. Campus police are already trained on issues surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion and implicit bias, the school has said.

Kanoute told CBS Boston she appreciates the president's apology, but wants the identity of the caller released. "I want a public apology from that caller and I want them fired from the school," Kanoute said.

The school says they aren't releasing the employee's name because college policy requires records released to have references to involved parties removed. They say they won't release outcomes of the external investigation related to personnel matters, but will publicize and recommendations on "policies, procedures, or further community training that result."

Trump Picks A Fight With King James!

LA Lakers star LeBron James hits back at Donald Trump.
LeBron James opens up a school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. He goes to CNN to talk with Don Lemon and talk about his success. He talks about the Los Angeles Lakers, the Ohio legacy and Donald J. Trump.

CNN re-aired Don Lemon's interview with LeBron James.

The interview focused on James' contributions to his hometown of Akron, Ohio, including a new public school for at-risk third- and fourth-graders there. But the two men also discussed politics. James told Lemon that President Donald Trump has used athletics and athletes to divide the country.
"I can't sit back and say nothing," James said.

This prompt a response for Trump.

Now the controversy. Many are calling out Trump for his insult on the intelligence of Black athletes and news reporters.

To call Black people dumb or low IQ is a typical attack from white extremists.

Melania Trump had to calm a fire. Because she actually had her presser release a statement promising that she will do more to help James.

"It looks like LeBron James is working to do good things on behalf of our next generation and just as she always has, the first lady encourages everyone to have an open dialogue about issues facing children today," the first lady's spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement. "As you know, Mrs. Trump has traveled the country and world talking to children about their well-being, healthy living, and the importance of responsible online behavior with her Be Best initiative. Her platform centers around visiting organizations, hospitals and schools, and she would be open to visiting the I Promise School in Akron."

This comes on the heels of a special election in Ohio's Congressional district 12. The 12th District is a toss-up now because of the Republican Pat Tibberi's departure. The long time Republican decided to exit placing the suburban Columbus metro district in play.

The Republican running is slightly ahead of the Democrat. The Democrats hope to pull an upset to finish the term and carry forth a full term in 2018 general.

National March On NRA!

NRA is losing money and possibly influence.
The National Rifle Association is facing more heat. The gun lobbyist group is linked to numerous controversies is claiming that they're in the red. Matter of fact, they are reporting that they're broke and they may have to shut down NRATV, the online streaming service that gives Wayne LaPierre, Dana Loesch, and Dan Bongino airtime.

Today there was the National March on NRA in Fairfax, Virginia.

The survivors of the most recent mass shootings have came together to protest the NRA and their grip on the Congress. The protesters are calling out the NRA for standing in the way of reasonable gun control.

They are pushing for increase restrictions to downloadable weapons, repealing the "Stand Your Ground" laws, banning the AR 15 rifle and having the IRS revoke the NRA's tax-exempt status.

It is also a recruiting drive to get people out to vote.

The protest is just the latest in months that have targeted the organization, stricter gun control laws and aim to increase voter registration after a string of mass shootings, stemming back to the high school attack in Parkland, Florida.

Protesters, including some from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, rallied outside the gun-rights organization and were met by several dozen of its supporters.

The protest comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by the gun organization targeting the state of New York.

The campaign the NRA highlighted appears to be part of a national effort, spearheaded by Parkland students, calling for companies to cut ties with the group in the aftermath of several high profile U.S. shootings.

The gun lobbying group claims in its lawsuit, which targets Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the New York State Department of Financial Services and Maria Vullo, which heads the department, that the state has caused "irrecoverable loss and irreparable harm" to the organization.

Some critics of the NRA believe the claims could be false or a way to increase membership and donations.

Maria Butina also hurt the NRA. The Russian-born gun lobbyist is in federal custody awaiting trial for failing to register as a foreign agent. Butina was doing high level espionage for the Russian government. She had contact with the NRA and Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), and others within the Republican Party.

I'm Trying To Help My Fellow American! Why You Call The Law On Me?

California woman was harassed by the cops after Safeway employees called them. They accused her of being a shoplifter.
This happened in California. The folks over at Safeway are doing damage control after some of their employees called the law on a Black woman who they accused of shoplifting.

Erika Martin was giving food to a homeless man outside the store. She never stepped foot inside the store and felt the employees called the law on her because she was Black.

Erika Martin told the junk food media that the incident occurred when she stopped at the store last month to help a homeless man she knew hung out there. She gave him a bag of dog food and some treats for his pit bull. Her two sisters were also there and gave two men care packages with soap, toothpaste, hand sanitizer and other hygiene products.

"I help the homeless as much as I can. I see homeless people weekly and I try help them the best that I can," Martin said.

Martin said her son, who's about to turn 10, and her nieces and nephews went into the store to see if the bakery was giving out free cookies and to get samples from the deli.

Martin stayed outside and talked to her sisters and the man to whom she gave the dog food.

She said a Safeway employee came out of the store, looked directly at her and rushed back inside, which she thought was strange.

As Martin prepared to leave, two police cars drove up and one stopped behind her so she couldn't back out of her parking place. They asked why she was there and if she had any warrants, Martin said. She told them that she'd never even had a parking ticket.

Mountain View Police spokeswoman Katie Nelson said that a Safeway employee called the police and to report a theft in progress. Five officers were dispatched to interview store employees and the Martin family.

"It was extremely clear to us that no one who had been identified was potentially involved in any sort of criminal activity, and we explicitly said as much to Safeway employees," Nelson said.

Martin said one of the officers told her that Safeway had called the police because she matched the description of someone taking items from the store and said the suspect was wearing a spaghetti-strap shirt.

Martin said she was wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt that said "Y'all need Jesus," and had not even gone into the store. Nelson said the description "somewhat matched" the top one of Martin's sisters was wearing.

The employee told the police that the children were running back and forth to a car parked outside.

"During the initial dispatch call, a Safeway employee informed our dispatcher that both employees and customers believed a man and a woman as well as children were working together to try and take items from the store," Nelson said.

"Racism still exists," said Martin.

Martin makes care packages for the homeless people in the Bay Area. She decided to do a good deed for those who couldn't afford a decent meal. Trust me, in Trump's Amerikkka, you're not going to get quality food at reasonable prices.

"The police just blocks me in and I'm like 'what's going on?'" she told the junk food media. "Then [the officer] was like, 'Well, we were called here because you fit the description of someone taking items out of Safeway and bringing it back to your car.'"

The officer asked if they had taken any cookies and he said no.

"My son was crying so much, he was so scared because he thought he did something wrong. He thought the police were going to arrest him for looking behind the counter," she said. "To see my child in so much fear broke my heart."

She said police let them go after about 30 minutes.

"In that short amount of time, we not only determined that no crime occurred, we explicitly told Safeway employees as such. None of the people Safeway identified in their call to us nor in their subsequent interview with us committed any crime whatsoever," Nelson said.

"We were very appreciative of the way the family allowed our officers to wrap up the call, and we apologized for inconveniencing their evening," she said.

Pool Party!

Trump has a job number that is positive (sort of).
Donald J. Trump heads to his Trump Bedminister Golf Course in New Jersey for his vacation. The House of Representatives begin their annual Summer recess. The Senate may be working for an additional 10-20 days before taking off for their summer recess. In order to force Democrats to confirm nominations including Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh, Mitch McConnell is ordering a shorten recess.

The employment rate goes down. The unemployment rate falls to 3.9 percent

The Labor Department on Friday released its hiring and unemployment figures for July. It gives us a look into how the Trump economy is working.

Given that many retail companies are closing, Trump and his minions seriously believe America's jobs are coming back and he credits the "achievements of his Jobs and Tax Cut Act" for the success.

Mind you that 157,000 jobs isn't a lot. We live in a country of 334 million Americans.

How is 157,000 jobs going to be distributed across the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories where residents live?

Americans are having trouble finding permanent work. Companies are struggling to find qualified workers willing to find the right job.

American workers' average hourly paychecks grew tepidly from the previous month and are up just 2.7% compared to the same time last year. During previous expansions, wages have grown at a faster pace. Economists' maintain that wages will rise as economy drains remaining slack from the labor market and businesses' pay more to retain workers.

Although the July hiring number fell below economists' expectations, the government revised the previous months' job gains by an additional 59,000. With revisions, job gains have averaged 224,000 a month over the past three months.

Real Reason To Why Unemployment Rate Stays The Way It Is! There are 104 million active body people not working in the United States.

2. BORN

3. IN PRISON

4. IN PRIMARY SCHOOL

5. IN MIDDLE SCHOOL

6. IN HIGH SCHOOL

22. SHAMED BY SOCIAL MEDIA

So if you actually believe that Trump is doing good, you're wrong. We are going to see the economy tank in three years. The inept leader rollback of regulations, these tariffs, saying these ridiculous comments and pushing for tax cuts are going to hurt us all in the long term.

Most Americans believe Trump is dishonest and a racist. That's not good. People are saying that Republicans are overreaching. This could hurt their chances to hold onto Congress.
