Damn DaBaby!

DaBaby or DaChef....

Lonely, lonely, baby....

Jonathan Kirk, the Charlotte area rapper who rose to national fame only to watch it collapse quickly when he took aim at his fan base opens an "upscale restaurant".

Not to mention, he riding on that MAGA bullshit.

Billion Dollar Baby was going to be the new label that folks were rocking to. Not anymore.

In 2021, DaBaby had a total collapse of his celebrity.  At the Rolling Loud festival, he made remarks that disparaged the LGBTQ community.

DaBaby faced backlash for remarks largely regarded to be homophobic.

While performing at the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami Gardens, Florida on July 25, he said, "[If] you didn't show up today with HIV/AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that'll make you die in two to three weeks, then put a cellphone light in the air. Ladies, if your pussy smell [sic] like water, put a cellphone light in the air. Fellas, if you ain't sucking dick in the parking lot, put a cellphone light in the air."

In the wake of his remarks, DaBaby's scheduled appearance at Lollapalooza on August 1 was cancelled and later replaced by G Herbo. The fashion brand BoohooMAN ended its collaboration with Baby. On August 2, the organizers of the Governors Ball Music Festival announced DaBaby had been removed from the 2021 lineup as a result of his comments.

He was also cut from Parklife Festival, Day N Vegas, Austin City Limits Festival, Music Midtown, and the iHeartRadio Music Festival.

Radio stations substituted a version of the "Levitating" remix without his contribution, resulting in his credit being removed on the Billboard Airplay Charts on August 9. On August 24, he also addressed being "canceled" in a freestyle over Bia's song "Whole Lotta Money".

Since the fallout, DaBaby has struggled to return to mainstream greatness. He is not blacklisted. He is not played regularly on mainstream radio. His classic singles will continue to keep revenue, but his latest singles and albums will just keep a fan base.

In the Charlotte area, DaBaby opened up No Knife Chicken & Waffles.

Its dedicated to providing a sophisticated yet welcoming environment where families and food enthusiasts can indulge in expertly crafted comfort dishes. Its commitment to using fresh ingredients ensures every meal is both delightful and satisfying, embodying their mission to deliver quality and joy at every table.

Looking on Google Maps, the restaurant sits in the hood. If its upscale, I would have assumed the restaurant was not located in the hood. I would have expected the business be in University City, Southpark, the city of Concord, the city of Pineville and the wards of downtown Charlotte.

Local residents said the price of the food is not affordable and not up to quality.

Social media users and customers criticized the restaurant's steep menu costs, which include $15 for a plain waffle, $25 for specialty or flavored waffles, and $6 for bottled water.

The most heavily debated item is the signature Soulfood Cornbread Waffle, priced at $45. It comes topped with collard greens, candied yams, and mac and cheese—but chicken is sold separately for an extra $10.

During an interview with local Charlotte station WJZY, DaBaby dismissed the critics by telling anyone looking for cheaper food that they "shoulda went to Waffle House".

He defended the costs by stating that No Knife Chicken & Waffles offers an "elevated dining experience," uses quality ingredients, and makes its batter and sides from scratch rather than just serving basic "flour and water".

While the internet mostly focused on mocking the menu prices, the real feedback from people who waited in the multi-hour lines paints a highly mixed picture. Reviews generally split between praising the taste of the food and criticizing the customer experience, strict rules, and long wait times.

Waiting hours for a waffle. The cult of personality.

Reviewers from the Charlotte Observer noted that the specialty waffles—like the $25 Strawberry Shortcake or Sweet Potato waffles—are massive, served in personal pizza-sized boxes, and are incredibly flavorful and filling. Vloggers have widely rated the waffles an "8 to 10 out of 10".

Opening weeks saw massive logjams, with multiple reviewers reporting that they had to wait between 3 to 4 hours just to get inside or receive their food.

Several vloggers noted that the venue feels more like an upscale night club or lounge than a casual brunch spot. Security is incredibly strict; multiple reviewers mentioned being barred from filming or recording inside the restaurant.

The restaurant requires customers to pay and tip before they receive their food, which rubbed some traditional diners the wrong way, especially when paired with slow service. Some customers also complained about the cramped layout and strict bathroom policies.

I support a Black owned businesses. Even if its a celebrity.

With Americans tightening up their wallets since President Donald J. Trump launched the war with Iran at the behest of fucking Israel, more Americans are bypassing fast food and casual dining. I haven't eaten at a fast food or causal dining restaurant in years.

Even when the opportunity to eat at fast food is there, I've opt for home meals or a gas station meals at Sheetz, QuikTrip or Circle K.

DaBaby is trying to rip off his fans with food you can literally make a home.
