Joe Madison Passed Away!

Joe Madison, The Black Eagle passed away from prostate cancer.

Longtime radio host and activist Joe Madison has passed away. The longest known Black radio host in the country passed away peacefully said his family. He was the host of The Joe Madison Show from 6am-10am on SiriusXM Urban View. He was 74 years old.

He was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He announced in late December he would take a moment away from his show. I was wondering for weeks about his health.

Madison was instrumental in helping Black Americans vote in the presidential elections.

What are you going do about it?

I know that swear jar will help motivate young activists to action.

Madison is a product of Dayton, Ohio. Graduate of Roosevelt High School.

President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, former president Barack Obama, Karen Hunter, Clay Cane, Heather B, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Roland Martin, Reecie Colbert, Dean Obeidallah, Malcolm Nance, Stephanie Miller and numerous others reacted to his passing.

Known as The Black Eagle, Madison was a native of Dayton, Ohio., he graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, which awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2019.

Madison began his broadcasting career in 1980 at Detroit's WXYZ-AM radio station.

Joining an otherwise white lineup at WWRC-AM in the early 1990s, he developed a crossover appeal handling issues that included race but were aimed at the station's multiracial audience. He left in 1998, after the station fired its talent and changed format, to start an online chat show.

He also worked at WOL-AM, and was placed in syndication on the Radio One Talk Network and its XM satellite channel. He left WOL in 2013.

Madison was heard Mondays through Fridays from 6 am to 10 am on Urban View channel 126, SiriusXM.

On Feb. 25–27, 2015, Joe Madison hosted a record-breaking marathon whereby he talked for 52 hours on his SIRIUS XM talk show. The broadcast is officially registered with the Guinness World Record Organization.

He held a hunger strike in 2022 after he asked for listeners to pressure Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act which he was instrumental in getting focus on.

He never shied away from telling it like it is and made no qualms about it.
