Eric Boehlert Passed Away!

Eric Boehlert passed away from a fatal accident.

American media critic and progressive agitator Eric Boehlert passed away on Wednesday night. He was a victim of a fatal train incident. He was riding his bicycle when he appeared to have collided with a commuter train in New Jersey.

Soledad O'Brien confirmed the news on social media.

Boehlert, 57, was a veteran writer and media analyst and a frequent television and radio guest discussing politics and the press on CNN and CNBC. He was a founding editor of Salon magazine, a fellow with Media Matters, and a former writer with Rolling Stone and Billboard magazines.  He wrote two books, "Lapdogs: How the Press Rolled Over for Bush," and "Bloggers on the Bus."

O'Brien tweeted, "Just got crushing news from Tracy Breslin, wife of @EricBoehlert https://pressrun.media Has died in a bike accident, age 57. Adored his kids Jane and Ben, his dogs, biking and running and basketball and good friends, a fierce and fearless defender of the truth."

Boehlert appeared as a contributor on MSNBC and progressive agitator Stephanie Miller's morning show.

Miller immediately returned from a few days off after the loss of her dog to address her friend's passing.

Boehlert also was a former contributor to media watchdog group Media Matters for America and his own franchise Press Run Media.

A release from NJ Transit on Tuesday reported that a train on the Montclair Boonton Line struck and killed an adult male on a bicycle Monday evening between its 8:59 departure from Hoboken, New Jersey, and its scheduled arrival in Hackettstown, New Jersey, at 11:07 p.m.

The agency has not commented further as the incident is under investigation.

Breslin and Boehlert, married for 29 years, have two grown children and are longtime Montclair, New Jersey, residents. The 6-foot-4 Boehlert was a familiar figure around town on his daily runs, and he loved to bike through town in the evenings, Breslin said. Though she doesn't know the circumstances of the accident, she said he had lights on his bike and wore reflective gear.
