Andrew Woolfolk Passed Away!

Andrew Woolfolk of Earth, Wind & Fire passed away.

A longtime member of the rock and R&B group Earth, Wind & Fire has passed away. The group confirms that Andrew Woolfolk had passed away on Apr. 24 at the age of 71. He passed away from an unknown illness. 

Band frontman Philip Bailey said in a social media posting on Tuesday.

"I met him in high school, and we quickly became friends and bandmates," Bailey wrote on social media. 

Woolfolk been ill for about six years.

Jazz legend Christian McBride offered his condolences as well. 

"What a major part of the EWF legacy," said McBride.

Earth, Wind & Fire was formed in 1969 in Chicago by Maurice White (who passed away in 2016), along with Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Ralph Johnson, Larry Dunn, Al McKay, Ronald Bautista (who passed away in 2012), Robert Brookins (who passed away in 2009), Sonny Emory, Fred Ravel, Ronnie Laws, Sheldon Reynolds and Andrew Woolfolk (who passed away in 2022).

White and Bailey were the lead singers of the group and led the group to six Grammys, 17 nominations, four American Music Awards, NAACP Image Award Hall of Fame and a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Woolfolk is a saxophonist and music producer.
