When Norfolk Southern railroad abandoned the short line going into Kettering, Ohio at the Tenneco plant, something told me that the company is closing/

Railroads usually connect to facilities offering transport of products. 

The CSX and Norfolk Southern lines travel through Dayton. CSX and the city own a five mile shortline that terminates near Trotwood.

Tenneco, a longtime automotive parts provider has announced it will be ending its Ohio facility.

It will put nearly 700 works out of their jobs. The company based out of Lake Forest, Illinois, near Chicago announced the news to the local junk food media.

The announcement was made to the workers at the facility. The executive director Steven Blow said in a communication blast, "This is a great team in Kettering and we recognize the impact this action will have on our team members. We will work to provide transition assistance for all affected team members, including some opportunities to transfer to other Tenneco locations. The company and union will be meeting in the coming weeks to bargain on these topics. This difficult decision is part of the company's need to realign its manufacturing footprint to respond to changing market conditions and capacity requirements."

The plant located on Woodman Drive in east Kettering will shutter.

Tenneco is a manufacturer and marketer of automotive products for original equipment and aftermarket customers. Its suppliers included Advance Auto Parts, BMW, GM and Toyota.

Union leaders for IUE-CWA which represents the Tenneco workers said that the company is trying to ship jobs to Mexico and China, citing their savings model. Which means they're outsourcing.

Some were angered by the news of the closure. The city of Kettering were told that that the plant was just restructuring. 

The building was previously housed to a GM automotive facilities plant and then Delphi before it was bought by Tenneco. The company was there for almost 15 years.
