For over six months, Denver residents were left wondering why somebody would kill a family of five.

Tragedy in the state of Colorado. Was this a hate crime?

I don't know but I know that the suspects are being held as adults and they will face criminal counts.

In Denver, Colorado, three teens are facing murder, arson, burglary and a slew of other charges after they were accused of killing a family of five in their home.

This family were immigrants from Senegal and their death has sparked concern in the city and the nation. Colorado governor Jared Polis, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were notified of this tragedy.

This incident happened six months ago.

The victims, Djibril Diol, 29, his wife Adja, 23, their two year old daughter Khadija, Djibril's sister Hassan, 25, and her daughter Hawa were killed. The family and friends said that Adja, Khadija, Hassan and Hawa had recently immigrated to the states from Senegal.

Two teens are being charged as adults in the murder of Djibril Diol and his family.

The suspects are named because they're being charged as adults. They have a lot of criminal charges on them which could carry LIFE or DEATH in the state of Colorado. The three were arrested in Jefferson County. They are not related but each person knows one another.

Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen said that the two suspects are 16 and one is 15.

Their motives were not explained but they have enough evidence to prosecute these terrorists.

"The evidence that we have uncovered and the circumstances and facts that we have found do not indicate that this is a bias-motivated crime," Pazen said.

One of the suspect's family members arrested on unrelated charges.

The case put the Senegalese community on edge as it went unsolved for months, despite a reward growing to $50,000 and appeals from friends and family for tips. Police said they assigned two detectives to work on the case full time and had help from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well as the U.S. Secret Service.

The Denver District Attorney's Office said Tuesday both teens are charged with 60 felony counts including first-degree murder, attempted murder, first-degree and second-degree assault, first and fourth-degree arson, first and second-degree burglary, conspiracy charges, and other sentencing enhancers.

They also face several violent crime counts, which are sentencing enhancers. That means, if convicted, they could face additional time behind bars.

The Denver District Attorney said Tuesday that they'll make a request for the case against him to be transferred from Juvenile Court to Denver District Court.

The 15-year old defendant is charged with 47 counts including first-degree murder, attempted murder, first-degree and second-degree assault, first and fourth-degree arson, first and second-degree burglary, conspiracy charges and a sentence enhancer of aggravated juvenile offender.

A woman who is related to one of the suspects was also arrested during the course of the investigation, but has not been charged in relation to the fire.

The woman, 23, was arrested while in possession of marijuana and a firearm, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)
