The United States is the sixth country to approve the COVID-19 vaccines. The Pfizer vaccine and Moderna vaccine will be distributed to the country. It was a long way to getting the vaccine but first responders, federal officials like President Donald J. Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be getting it.
In New York City, a Black nurse will be the first American to be getting the vaccine.
UPS and FedEx have committed to shipping the vaccine to the hospitals. The vaccine must be kept at temperatures at -94 Fahrenheit.

| Sandra Lindsay is an American hero. |
Sandra Lindsay was the first American to receive the vaccine. She took it the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens. The borough of Queens has one of the worst COVID-19 cases in the state.
New York governor Andrew Cuomo watched as Sandra gets the vaccine in her left arm.
“It didn’t feel any different from taking any other vaccine. I feel hopeful today, relieved. I feel like healing is coming. I hope this marks the beginning of the end of a very painful time in our history. I want to install public confidence that the vaccine is safe,” Lindsay said.
“This is the light at the end of the tunnel. But it’s a long tunnel,” said Cuomo.
Trump as expected took credit for the vaccines.

The shipments of the frozen vaccine vials began arriving at hospitals around the country first thing this morning so health care workers, as well as nursing home residents, can be the first to receive the shots in a bid to beat the pandemic.
Over 350,000 Americans are expected to be dead from the coronavirus.
Right now we’re at 320,000.
Three stages of distribution will take place between December 2020 and August 2021..
First stage
Health care workers
Nursing home and long-term care facility workers and residents.
Second stage
Non health care essential workers
Over 70
Over 65
Over 60
Over 50
People with chronic health conditions.
Third stage
Young adults
