Mario Diaz-Balart: I Got The Coronavirus!

Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) got the coronavirus.
The coronavirus is spreading across the United States and it's impacted every corner of the country.

Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) announced on Wednesday became the first member of Congress to announce that he tested positive for coronavirus, saying he had been stricken with a fever and headache this weekend.

That means he's been around many of his staffers, his fellow Republicans and some Democrats.

That means he's been at Mar a Largo with Donald J. Trump and Mike Pence. Who knows how he contracted the virus, but he's pretty much got a lot of people exposed to it. His brother is Jose Diaz-Balart, a well known NBC and Telemundo reporter.

The virus has already affect others on Capitol Hill. Two congressional staffers were infected with the virus and a handful of lawmakers have self-quarantined at both the state and federal levels.

"In an abundance of caution, after votes on Friday, March 13th, Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart decided to self-quarantine in Washington, DC, and not to return to South Florida because of his wife's Tia's pre-existing conditions that put her at exceptionally high risk," said his office. "On Saturday evening, Congressman Diaz-Balart developed symptoms, including a fever and a headache. Just a short while ago, he was notified that he has tested positive for COVID-19. While in quarantine Diaz-Blart has been working from his apartment in Washington, DC."

The lawmaker has said he's "feeling much better."

Republicans and Democrats are facing a problem. They have to get their act together. Many people (including myself) are out of a job due to the state governors closing businesses that cater to more than 50 people.

Millions of Americans are laid off. Now Congress is passing emergency bills to hand off money to laid off employees affected by the coronavirus.

We're in a recession.

Once again, this is proof positive that Republicans are terrible at handling the economy. They believe austerity is the key to growth. Cutting the safety net, punishing immigrants and rolling back regulations led to this result.

Now with uncertainty, American faces a rough road ahead.

Democrats won't fare better. Given that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) continues his quest to the nomination despite he's mathematically eliminated from the nomination, Joe Biden will likely be weaken by Sanders and Trump's onslaught of misinformation.
