Dayton Suburb Is Officially A Food Desert!

Trotwood's grocery store Foodtown goes out of business.

Trotwood, Ohio is officially a ghost town. Maybe I should say, "Trotwood is already a ghost town."

The town of 21,000 residents got a bomb dropped on them.

The owner of Foodtown announced he will close the Trotwood and Tipp City locations in mid-September. That will leave the Drexel Foodtown open for the time being. That will be the only grocery store in Trotwood.

Trotwood mayor Mary McDonald is angry over the loss of Foodtown. She said her city is deprived of retail outlets and now an iconic grocery store. She said that this is a huge loss. She said it's a minor setback.

No, it's a huge setback. Trotwood lost the Salem Mall, Burlington Stores, Kmart, Sears, Elder-Beerman, Best Buy, Walmart, Cub Foods, Circuit City, Target, Family Dollar, Payless Shoe Source, Toys R Us, JC Penney, Lazarus and many other businesses during it's nearly 20 years as an incorporated city. This is a devastating setback.

You can't fix a community that is completely broken.

Residents will now have to travel to Walmart in Englewood, Dorothy Lane Market in Oakwood, Dot's Market in Kettering, Kroger in Harrison Township, Target in Huber Heights, Save-A-Lot in Dayton, ALDI in Englewood and Meijer in Englewood.

Gordon Food Service is the only grocery store left. Mind you that is a bulk food supplies store but that does have food selections.

The owner of Foodtown said that sales are down and the store can't sustain another year of losses.

The owner blames the rise of Amazon, Kroger and delivery services like Shipt as factors.

Trotwood can't survive as a community. It might as well dissolve itself back to Madison Township or be annexed into Dayton.

I just don't know! It's a heartbreaking experience for those people who live in food deserts.

Donald J. Trump carried Montgomery County by nine points. He is likely to carry Ohio in the 2020 election. The lawmaker who represents this area, Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) doesn't give a fuck about the area. He will regularly cite Wright Patterson Air Force Base as the only reason to why deserves to be a part of the status quo. He won't visit the communities he represents.
