John Singleton In Dire Straits!

Famed director John Singleton had a stroke.
The man who made Black cinema a force to be reckoned with suffered a stroke.

You may remember the iconic movie Boyz N The Hood. It was preserved in the National Film Registry inside the United States Library of Congress. The movie was done by John Singleton. He was only 22 when he started filming the movie.

Boyz N The Hood told a tale about the forgotten in Los Angeles. A young director managed to give Cuba Gooding, Jr., Morris Chestnut, Nia Long and Laurence Fishburne name recognition.

Singleton suffered a stroke this weekend.

According to TMZ, which first broke the news, Singleton had been on a flight from Costa Rica back to the U.S., which may have contributed to the incident.

Singleton, who also directed films 2 Fast 2 Furious, Four Brothers and “Shaft, received two Emmy nominations in 2017 for filming The People v. O.J. Simpson and documentary L.A. Burning: The Riots 25 Years Later. He also directed the music video for Michael Jackson’s Remember the Time.

"On Wednesday, April 17th our beloved son/father, John Singleton, suffered a stroke while at the hospital," the statement read. "John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care. We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends and colleagues."

The two-time Oscar nominee for Boyz n the Hood suffered a "mild" stroke after checking into a hospital this week after feeling ill following a trip to Costa Rica, a family member told TMZ.

Luke Perry passed away last month after suffering a severe stroke. He was best known for his roles on Beverly Hills 90210 had passed away after a massive stroke.
