We had mass shootings in the United States. Most of the mass shootings didn't really move the needle on gun control policies. However, activism got people out to vote. It helped Moms Demand Action activist Lucy McBath to become a Congresswoman. McBath is the mother of Jordan Davis. The teen was killed in Florida in 2012. Activism got the National Rifle Association in trouble with the feds. They had a Russian spy infiltrate the organization to peddle influence in the election. The revenue is slowly drying up. Advertising groups won't do business with the NRA because of Dana Loesch and Dan Bongino. The NRA's spokesperson Wayne LaPierre is now listed as a white extremist by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Former Milwaukee County sheriff David Clarke now under the federal radar. Killer Mike is considered a sell-out because he endorsed the NRA.

Mass shootings will continue. But with Democrats planning on passing gun reform laws in the term, maybe change is a coming. About 94 people are killed a day by firearms. That means about 59,000 people have died each year to gun violence.

Which mass shooting in 2018 got your attention?

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Massacre in Parkland, Florida.
The EA Sports Madden Tournament Massacre in Jacksonville, Florida.
The Tree of Life Synagogue Massacre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Capital Gazette Massacre in Annapolis, Maryland.
The Gun Violence Epidemic in Chicago, Illinois.
The Borderline Bar & Grill Massacre in Thousand Oaks, California.
Other mass shootings (ex. Nashville Waffle House Massacre, Baltimore, Maryland Warehouse Massacre, Santa Fe, Texas Middle School Massacre, etc.)

What happen to _________? For the year, I've posted about people of color being killed by law enforcement and vigilantes. I am still vocal about how law enforcement is killing Black men without prejudice. I've seen it time after time and I believe it's going to get worse before it gets better. We're still demanding justice reform despite Congress passing a bipartisan law. We need police reform, better trained officers and a sense of understanding. We also need to have law enforcement better equipped in the case of a shooting. Cause I know cops have a thankless job.

Just like them, I want to go home tonight and see my family.

The law killing people of color. Which event touched you the most?

Botham Jean being killed by a former Dallas Police Officer after she mistaken his apartment as hers.
Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford, Jr. being killed by a Hoover, Alabama Police Officer after he thought he was the gunman. Didn't even give an order. Shot the "good guy" with a gun. Happened in a mall. Actual killer caught after two weeks of damage control.
Jemel Roberson being killed by Chicago Police. He was a security guard trying to protect lives. Cops shot the "good guy" with a gun.
Stephon Clark being killed by the Sacramento Police. He was allegedly fleeing into his grandparents yard when two cops killed him after they mistaken a phone as a gun.
Saheed Vassell being killed by the New York Police Department. The NYPD saw a mentally ill man running with a pipe. They didn't even give him enough time to drop it. They shot him at point blank range.
Diante Yarber being killed by the Barstow, California Police. He was in a moving vehicle leaving Walmart when a cop shot into his vehicle over 30 times.
Antwon Rose being killed by the East Pittsburgh Police. He was fleeing a vehicle when a rookie officer decided to shoot Rose in the back seven times.
Thurman Blevins Jr. being killed by the Minneapolis Police. He was fleeing two officers when they spotted a firearm. He didn't point at them. They shot him twice in the back.
Lamar Richardson being killed by the Toledo, Ohio Police. He was fleeing two officers. They claimed he pointed a weapon at them. They shot him ten times.
Daniel Hambrick being killed by Nashville Metro Police. He was fleeing after exiting a vehicle. A rookie cop shot him in the head and then kicked his lifeless body.
Markeis McGlockton being killed by a vigilante in Clearwater, Florida. The killer got into a confrontation with McGlockton's girlfriend. He responded by pushing the killer away from his car. The killer then pulled out his firearm and shot him in the chest. The killer shot McGlockton in front of his children.
Other (Any other notable events where the police shot and killed a person of color).

White folks calling the law on people of color. This year saw a lot of white people being dubbed this "cutesy" nicknames to point out their flagrant use of 911 on people of color minding their business. I know I've seen it one too many times in the United States.

Who will be the next white person shamed out of a job?

White people calling the law on people of color. Which one will be the most memorable?

The manager of a Starbucks called the Philadelphia Police on two customers waiting on a friend. (BECKY)
The CVS manager who called the Chicago Police on a woman because he was upset she had a lot of coupons. (COUPON CARL)
The canibus vendor who called the San Francisco Police on an 8 year old selling water outside a condo. (PERMIT PATTY)
The New York woman who called the NYPD on a 9 year old boy after she claimed he sexually assaulted her. Turns out it was his backpack that brushed her. (CORNERSTORE CAROLINE)
The college instructor who called the Oakland Police on a family who was grilling in a park (BBQ BECKY)
The woman who smacked a boy after she saw him swimming her apartment pool. (POOL PATROL PAULA)
Other (Any other events where a white person called, assaulted or harassed a person of color).

Media shake ups. We know that Roseanne Barr, Megyn Kelly and Bill Cosby top the 2018 biggest media shakeups. But I want to know what were your moments? I know it's hard to watch hours of celebrity news and political commentary. Trust me, it's nauseating! It's a part of our job to cover what's happening in the year and hope to give a better take in 2019.

What was the biggest shock in the junk food media?
Code:

Megyn Kelly proved to be the biggest flop over at NBC News.
Roseanne Barr's racist tweet killed her career. Hollywood blackballed her and cancelled her check.
The Weekly Standard folds after years of promoting far-right extremism
The National Enquirer admits that it hid damaging stories about Donald Trump.
Kathie Lee Gifford retires from NBC's Today after years of hosting.
Les Moonves was accused of sexual harassment at CBS. He was fired out the cannon and had his check cancelled.
Bill Cosby saw bars. He was convicted of sexual assault and sent to the iron college and labeled a TIER III. Downfall of America's TV Dad.
Kimberly Guilfoyle is dating Donald Trump, Jr. Trump admits cheating on Vanessa with singer Aubrey O'Day
Sean Hannity was revealed as a client of Michael Cohen. Federal judge ordered names. Annoying agitator failed to disclose it on radio and TV.
Kevin Spacey did his creepy Frank Underwood video as the law closes in on him.

Political success. Donald Trump had a year of mishaps. But he still managed to win some of these fights. However, the Democrats took control of Congress via the House of Representatives. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is bringing a new form of progressive. She has been pushing for a Green New Deal and fighting back against right wing trolls who demonized her from the moment she won her primary. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib will be the first Muslim women to serve in Congress. Ayanna Pressley will be the first African American woman to serve in Massachusetts as a Congresswoman. Sharice Davids is the first LGBTQ lawmaker who is Native Americans and former mixed-martial arts fighter. Lauren Underwood beat a longtime Republican in a district that never voted Republican. Former Teacher of the Year recipient Jahana Hayes will be the first African American woman to serve as a Congresswoman from Connecticut. Women make up a handful of newly sworn in lawmakers in this upcoming Congress.
Trump will face new headaches in 2019.
Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in as the newest Supreme Court justice. He face a lot of backlash for allegations stemming from his days as prep student. Dr. Christine Blassy Ford came into the limelight as one of the many accusers who said that Kavanaugh and a friend raped her while she was at a party. The Republicans didn't believe her story and the right wing agitators were attacking her character and made the issue about her and not the man who could rule on rape cases.

Robert Mueller has put a handful of former Trump associates in the hot seat. Donald J. Trump is the point man to a potential scandal involving his dealings with Russian agents. He and many of his allies are facing possible criminal indictments for their role in the meddling of the 2016 U.S. election.

The key players include: Trump, Mike Pence, Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn, Michael Cohen, Roger Stone, Donald Trump, Jr., Jared Kushner, Dana Rohrabacher, Carter Page, George Papadopolous, Rick Gates, Cambridge Analytica, Natalia Veselnitskaya, Maria Butina, Jill Stein, Steve Bannon, Sam Clovis, Jerome Corsi, K.T. McFarland, Eric Prince, Rex Tillerson, Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, Alex van der Zwann, Sean "Softball" Hannity, Julian Assange and allies of the Russian GRU are under the radar.

Some may believe that Trump green lighted a foreign country to get information on Hillary Clinton.

Trump continues to deny his involvement in this. He calls Robert Mueller and the special prosecution a "witch hunt."

Who became a political winner?

Donald Trump
Nancy Pelosi
Mitch McConnell

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Political failures. Trump couldn't get the border wall. We're in a government shutdown over it. The Republicans were defeated in the House races. They managed to steal races in Florida, Georgia, Ohio and a congressional seat in North Carolina. The Republicans appointed failed candidate Martha McSally in Arizona to replace John McCain and Jon Kyl. The Republicans managed to pile on more debt in one single year thanks to the Jobs and Tax Cut Act. A Republican appointed federal judge ruled that the ACA was unconstitutional. The Democrats managed to box Trump into a corner. They keep reminding Trump said Mexico (not American taxpayers) will pay for the border wall.
The new class.
As explained earlier, George Papadopolous Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen are convicted criminals. The Mueller probe has gotten them in a lot of trouble. Stormy Daniel's lawyer Michael Avenatti is no longer in the running for president. He smacked his girlfriend around.

Fox News is turning into Trump propaganda. Many in the junk food media are fearing that Trump's attacks on them will inspire another mad bomber or mass shooter.

Who became the biggest political loser?

Donald Trump
Paul Ryan
Roy Moore
House Republicans Who Lost In Midterms
Affordable Care Act
Senate Democrats From States Trump Carried
Michael Cohen
Paul Manafort

Andrew Gillum

Now we're gearing up for 2019. Expect Donald J. Trump and Congress to clash. This government shutdown will eventually be over and we'll be covering it. We will hold Trump, the House Democrats and Senate Republicans accountable.

Expect Democrats line up a handful of candidates who want to oust Trump from the White House.

More celebrities that passed away.

More success and failures from our leaders, entertainers and community.

More controversies that ensue this country and the world. More mass shootings to make the news.

More stories about our community of Dayton, Ohio.

More activism.

On behalf of me (The Blue Light Buzz) and S.B, we thank you for reading Journal de la Reyna. We continue to move into the new year with optimism, confidence and a new sense of direction.
