The NFL Sent Papa John's To The Showers!

The new logo without Papa John's. The company took a hit after its founder made an offensive comment about Black athletes. John Schnatter stepped down in January. The NFL ends it sponsorship.
The National Football League and the third largest pizza company end their partnership. The eight year partnership ends after the pizza company's founder made inappropriate comments about the league and its players taking a knee to social injustice.

John Schnatter, the founder of Papa John's Pizza was Donald J. Trumps biggest backer. He was very supportive of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the rollbacks of the Affordable Care Act.

Schnatter was very vocal about the NFL not taking action against players who refuse to stand for the national anthem. When Colin Kaepernick started this movement to protest police officers killing unarmed people of color, the right twisted it into an attack on the police and military.

Trump said that people like Kaepernick and others should have been fired out the cannon. He wanted NFL owners to get these "son of a bitches" off the field.

The NFL took a nosedive in ratings because of the controversy.

NFL players have voiced concern that their right to speak out against injustice is being silenced. The conservative fans boycotted the NFL believing its losing support because people don't like protesting. The Black Lives Matter Movement have also boycotted the league because of the double standard. They feel that Kaepernick was railroaded by the owners. Kaepernick still hasn't played since his release from the San Francisco 49ers.
A big mouth left a gaping hole in the bottom line. John Schnatter hurt his business after talking smack about the NFL and Black Lives Matter.

Papa John's saw its revenue take a hit and Schnatter blamed the NFL.

Well his comments were out of line. Soon he found himself under fire for that.

Many said that his comments came off as racist. He also encouraged the alt-right to support his rhetoric. Many felt that Schnatter's remarks damaged the brand.

Now he stepped down as the CEO this month and his successor, Steve Ritchie is trying to save the company from fading from existence.

The loss of the NFL is big. That means the company loses out in revenue sales during the NFL preseason, regular season, playoffs and the Superbowl.

Now the 22 NFL leagues that still affiliate with Papa John's will continue on but the NFL logos and sponsorship will end.

Also bad news continue for the Papa John's company. The University of Louisville Cardinals were stripped of its NCAA standings and its 2013 national title.

Papa John's based out of Louisville, Kentucky is also the official sponsor of Cardinals basketball. They will now lose revenue cause of this too.

Better pizzas without the bigotry.
