"Yeah. Anti-miscegenation laws were as much about controlling white women as they were black people. Also, early on it was decided that the status of a child, whether s/he would be slave or free, would be based on the mother’s status, not the father’s.

So, just to repeat, anti-miscegenation has nothing to do with protecting the purity of any “race,” much less white people. It was all about protecting white men’s sexual freedom and curtailing everyone else’s. European men did this any place they colonized: Africa, India, etc. My collorary thought is the striking fact that while nonwhites were usually always imagined as hypersexual, the laws, which were written by white men, always allowed white men to mate/rape whomever they chose."
