Albert Evans Passed Away!

Legendary dancer Albert Evans passed away.

Albert Evans, a former New York City Ballet principal dancer and one of the most prominent African Americans in classical dance, has died at the age of 46.


We here at World News Today send our condolences to the family of Albert Evans.

Evans died at Mount Sinai, Monday night following a bout with an illness.

Evans was one of the only two African-American dancers in the New York City Ballet. The first dancer was Arthur Mitchell.

As a principal dancer, Evans maintained a huge variety of roles in the Ballet repertoire.

From classical to modern, from George Blaanchie to Jerome Robbins to Christopher Wheeldon, Evans had rose through the ranks. He joined the New York Ballet in 1988.

He became a soloist in 1991 and then a principal in 1995.
New York City Ballet Company lost a great iconic figure in classical dance.
Evans retired in 2010 with an emotional farewell performance, and has been serving as a ballet master for the company until his passing.

There's an outpouring of grief for the lost of a legendary dancer.

"The entire New York City Ballet family is heartbroken by the loss of our beloved friend and college Albert Evans," said Peter Martins, the company's ballet master and chief. released in a statement.

"Kind, warm, generous, and always a joy to be with, Albert is quite simply irreplaceable".
