The Transgender Tea Party Candidate!

Lauren Scott, the chairwoman of Equality Nevada switch parties to run for Nevada state assembly. Originally a Democrat, Scott became a Republican. This could be the first transgender lawmaker. She took a picture with Vice President Joe Biden.

Nevada Republicans could elect its first transgender candidate for the state legislature.

The Huffington Post reports that Lauren Scott is posed to be the nominee. She is the executive director of Equality Nevada, won 58 percent of the vote Tuesday in the state Assembly's 30th District.

If Scott wins in November, she could be the nation's first openly transgender state legislator, though another transgender woman, Dana Beyer, is running in Maryland's Democratic primary for a state Senate seat and so could also win that distinction.

Winning in the legislative district, which encompasses parts of Democratic-leaning Reno, could prove to be a challenge. However, Scott thinks her background -- she used to be a Democrat, registering as a Republican in 2011 -- may help her in her bid to unseat the Democratic incumbent, State Assemblyman Michael Sprinkle.

“I have always been a moderate and I am willing to work with Democrats and Republicans to find solutions to the problems facing Nevada today,” Scott said in a statement after her victory.

Scott was as an active-duty member of the U.S. Air Force for nearly seven years.

According to her website, she claims that her party change started when she was disenchanted with both political parties and had originally registered as non-partisan.

Scott agree with many issues the Democrats supports but the issues of taxation and business development, she supports Republicans.

On Thursday, Scott suggested that she'd have national support from the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, a group that works to elect LGBT candidates to office.

Now you understand that the Republican Party isn't that tolerant of the LGBT community. They happen to be the party that is trying to pass legislation that openly discriminates against transgender Americans.

This candidate will have to work hard to get her Republican friends to support her.
