THERE is enough room in this country for two languages, says Maori Battalion veteran Tini Glover — who fought in World War 2 for both Maori and Pakeha to live in peace.

Mr Glover is one of five Tairawhiti kaumatua featuring in a DVD released this week to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo — Maori Language Week.

His story of how Maori children were treated when he attended the Tolaga Bay public school is disturbing. The cruelty inflicted on the Maori children speaking their native tongue, heart breaking."
